Here are my thoughts... To his point, Charlie Bell, Morris Peterson, AJ Granger, and Andre Hutson are all better at their position that anyone on UMs team currently. So at every other position MSU wins that matchup.

So Burke is forced to take the team on his back when they need it. He doesn't have the confidence to rely on anyone else. So when a game needs to be taken over, Burke feels that he needs to take it over.

Mateen is as loyal and confident as it comes, and could give two flying "you know whats" who brought them back. Watch the 2000 championship game again. The more I watch that game, the more I realize how those players performed out of their mind. AJ being the best. He had all the confidence in the world because he not only had prepared the right way and worked his ass off, but because of that he knew that the team (and Mateen) had all the confidence in him.

I had the pleasure of working out in the Duffy weight room with the basketball team in the summer of 1999. Mateen was not only the director on the court, but a leader and motivator off of it. The number of times I saw him in the weight room push people to be more than they could be is not countable. I remember one time when Charlie Bell was sitting against a wall with sand bags on his lap. He was getting to the point of muscle failure. Everytime he yelled, Mateen threw another sand bag on him saying that yelling indicated weakness and knew that Charlie was better than that.

So if you go based on "on court" play, perhaps you would start an team with Burke. Especially if it was a one game choice. I have no problem with Jamie having the opionion he does. If he were starting a team to play one game, perhaps you could make the choice of Burke over Mateen.

However if you were to choose one player to build a program, there is simply no choice at all. If Mateen was on Michigans team, Hardaway would not resort to chucking like he still does at times and Big Dog II would be an All American. Burke has the scoring ability to take a team on his back. Mateen had the ability to each and every single day make sure that the people around him had the ability to insure that it never came down to that.

Burke = "Fine, if you wont do it, I will" Mateen = "F you! We are in this together, every single moment we are all working together to make sure we carry each other"

To me, Mateens approach is the best because if Burke is off, they struggle. If Mateen was off, he had the confidence to rely on someone else.

How could anyone pick Trey Choke over Mateen.... Obviously the D media bias in full effect.

By his logic, Talor Battle > Trey Burke. Ignore the idiot.
