I thought we werent taking that many WR this year

The 5-foot-10, 175-pound Harris was recruited by Michigan State return specialist as well as a wide receiver.

This kinda came out of nowhere. Quotes would be nice to confirm.... just doesn't add up. Greyshirt?

Kilgore's commitment interview stated that we are only taking 1 WR (which makes sense with limited scholly #'s and taking 4 last year plus Arnett)

Some quick comments from Jay Harris on his commitment to Michigan State via Lions247's Sean Fitz to hold you over.

"I just committed to Michigan State," said Harris. "Just from the first day I went up there I had a great feeling about it. I got a good feel for the coaching staff, the atmosphere. They have a great education system up there. They have a great business school and that's what I want to go into. It just all clicked."

    Will play WR

"I just got off the phone with Coach D about a half-hour ago I guess," he said. "I just called him up and he got my grades and everything. He asked me if I was still ready to make this official, then we can make this official. I said I was more than ready to commit. They're real excited about me, they have big plans for me and big expectations."

    Alrighty, thanks

  • Kids got a hell of a highlight tape. Size is probably the only thing that kept him from a stronger ranking. OK so lets go get some D/O line commits.

Great quotes! He sounds like a good kid and I am glad he decided to be a Spartan.

  • Cuts, field vision and 2nd gear, definitely looks like he could be a good one.

  • Couple interesting notes on Jay.

Earned Ches-Mont all conference first team along side 2011 Spartan signee Kyle Kerrick.

Cousin, Drew Harris, was a 2011 four star running back, who signed with VaTech but enrolled at Fork Union after failing to qualify.

  • I really like this kid's film. I didn't expect us to take another receiver, but can't argue with Coach D. Welcome, Jay Harris!

You pay your way for a semester/year and then you'll go on scholarship. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong.

That's basically it. While there is often mid year attrition that opens up a scholie, the recruit MIGHT have to play his own way the entire first year.

  • Welcome to MSU, Jay! spartan2

  • Guessing he will be playing WR but maybe desired more for his return abilities. Kmart ended up being a great return man who blossomed into a great WR. I could see the same for this kid.

    82msuspartan

  • Seems like the staff almost looks at the KMart/AJ Sims/Mac Kings type of recievers as an entirely different position than the more traditional guys.

    Definitely has speed on film.

  • He's a very fluid athlete, he make everything look easy. He has great side-step ability, and has another gear when he finds the edge of the defense. He'll excel at PR and KR duties, and is a matchup nightmare for a defense if he goes across the middle. The one thing that really stood out to me on the film is his willingness to run north and south right into traffic. Sometimes he found the very small window that turns a decent run into a TD, and sometimes he carried a defender a few more yards with him. This guy is a football player.

damn straight: REAL good film. I especially like the fact he'll go and get the ball in a crowd too: the kid has no fear and reminds me a little of Keshawn Martin's HS film..........just another toy for Roushar to play with. NICE pickup by the staff........again.

    spartyon1

  • I love the type of slot receiver we are getting. Right in the Keshawn mold. SPEED.

  • Staff could be hoping to mold him into a Steve Smith type player, perhaps.

Sean or Dan, can you confirm this? Absolutely love the kid's film. He not only has speed, agility and vision, but he's also tough as nails. Really willing to stick his nose in there. I'm just wondering why he doesn't have more offers. He's a top 20 kid in PA so you'd expect more than 3 D1 offers. Not questioning by any stretch (I've been excited about this kid since he surfaced a couple months ago), just curious. Were grades a bit of an issue? Sounds like the staff waited to take his commitment until they received his full junior year grades.

  • He is too small, he doesn't play against good enough talent, he doesn't have enough stars....What Dantonio offered...get him on the phone...

Oh crap...he's a Spartan....who else has Dantonio offered?

This is a mild re-creation of a live Urban Meier recruiting session.

In all fairness, Urban also offers all of Saban's, Miles, Stub Toe, and to a lesser degree, Kelly and cHoke recruits.

Welcome to the family Mr. Harris. We expect to see you celebrating in the end zone and singing the fight song with the faithful at the end of games. You have made an excellent decision.

You must be a pretty special player for Coach D to take your commitment after Mr. Kilgore's. Go Green, Go Jay!!!
