Jerry Palm now has MSU as a 1 seed

Iona is NOT a 14 seed, but if they are and matched up with a 3 seed UM, the Gaels will be moving on.

    Depends which team blows harder.

I'm not a mid-major hater by any means, but if Murray State gets a 4 seed that's a big bonus for the 13 seed and 5/12 winner in that region. Here, the new ESPN mock bracket is up:

So we could potentially play ISU, FSU, Zaga in our quarter of the bracket lol

  • If there was ever a season to win the NC, this is certainly it. This bracket just doesn't intimidate me.

Capt.Gingersnap, don't be angry with me.

OF COURSE Duke and NC would be playing their first games in Greensboro

That happens all the time. Garbage!
How does Greesboro get the first and second round every year? Greensboro is really nice, but it seems like an unfair advantage for unc/duke year in/year out.

  • If we had that bracket my prediction is we would play and beat the following:

    UT Arlington
    Seton Hall
    Wichita State
    UNC

But wouldn't it be sweet to play Northwestern in the Sweet 16?

  • I think he slapped this bracket together a bit too quickly.

With regards to big ten seeding, he has:

Wisconsin alone in the Mid West

    Michigan alone in the South

Purdue and Ohio State in the East

Michigan State (#1 seed) with Northwestern and Indiana in the West.

I don't think the Committee would put 2 conference teams in the same Regional as a #1 seed, while leaving other Regions with only 1 seed from that conference. I think Northwestern and Indiana would be placed in the other two single seeded Regions.

The committee tries to avoid rematches, but this bracket adds rematches in the #1 seeds regional.

Lazy on his part. The #1 seeds get the most consideration from the committee, to the detriment of the lower seeds.

Of course this is just an informal swag, but he could have spent more than five minutes on it.

  • Some of Palm's early bowl selections had similar impossibilities.

IIRC, he had UNL and umAA in higher bowls than they both could attain, since they still had to play each other and thus one of them had to acquire another loss and be ineligible for the bowl that he had placed them.

  • Yes, he is careless. Yes, it is actually meaningless.

I know that I would take a bit more pride if I were publishing my thoughts and "predictions" in a national venue like CBS Sports. Whatever.

    GO GREEN!

  • Have you guys read the comments at the bottom of that page? Lots of hate for MSU, and the B1G in general.

Explain to me the slurp fest for Iona? They have losses to #137 Manhattan, #261 Hofstra, and # 230 Sienna. They only have two wins over teams with an RPI better than 85 (2-2 record against teams in the 50-57 range). I'm sorry, but if a team from the MAAC expects to be better than a 13 or 14 seed, you need a win against someone in the top 40 RPI or you can't be losing games to teams in the triple digits of the RPI. Too many bad losses to get a better seed.
