Jim Burr sucks, part 547

    I uploaded the "technical"

I didn't have a problem with the technical at all. For those who watched the Kentucky @ Mississippi State game last night Anthony Davis got T'd for the exact same dunk and hang.

Anthony Davis Steal, Dunk, Technical Again...

Anthony Davis gets with a ridiculous steal and dunk against Mississippi State on 2-21-12. He gets called for a technical for hanging on the rim. Cats come back from 13 in the second half to win.

I just don't like that a Minny player called it on behalf of Jim Burr.

lol Burr fucking up the Pitt/Nova game. Called a shot clock violation after ball clearly hits the rim then claims it was an "inadvertent whistle".

I'm convinced that burr calls fouls just so he can catch his breath, the fat piece of hobo shit.

Davis was moving much slower and had a better idea of where the defenders were. Keith had to hang or he could've hurt himself, either from the speed he was moving or because a defender undercuts him (they were behind him, how is he supposed to know what they're doing?)

So you expected Appling to let go of the rim and fall flat on his back? Davis shouldn't have been called either.

  • The dude is 65 and over weight. My experience is those guys even at the HS level are a bit slow and have a power complex that keeps them in the game. It is a control thing. Retire dude give us all a break.

This. Burr as a short, fat slob could have no appreciation of the need to regain your balance after a fast break dunk at Appling's speed.

  • A) Williams did it much more emphatically in the first half with no one around him, no call.

    B) Appling looks down and pulls his legs up to avoid hitting the trailing player, swings away from him. The minn player was coming under his right side.

    C) Tech was not called until after the minn player walked up to him.

    D) 2 plays prior, Williams showed him up the exact same way Green did when burr called Green for his T, no call.

    E) If there is any chance a player's safety is at risk, they are never supposed to be called for hanging on the rim.

  • That call on Davis was BS as well. I am sorry these old refs need to retire. It is the same thing in HS Sports. They have experience yes, but they can't keep up with the pace and miss calls. Then because they have a lot of experience they get a huge ego and start giving Techs to people who question them. I see it all the time. Coaches hate it too, I have talked to many who prefer the younger officials because they can keep up, don't miss as many calls, and are less likely to issue techs or misconducts, when the coach questions something.

It was a BS call on Davis and it was an even bigger BS call on Appling. I don't know what the rule states in the rule book and I don't really care how technical I'm being here, that call should only be made in absolutely extreme circumstances.

But if you hang on the rim for too long someone's feelings might get hurt! Priorities!

Exactly. Both were BS calls. If they're going to call that a tech, they might as well eliminate two-handed dunks on fast breaks, because you can't protect yourself without doing exactly what Appling did.

  • Burr called ours tonight, Valentine on UK's tech last night... both are refs who have a history of "LOOK AT ME!" moments. See Forde's article re: Valentine a few weeks ago on Rivals. A player should not be punished for sprinting his ass down the court, I mean, it's pretty much physics that a player is going to do a "chin-up" motion because of their momentum. Two bad calls IMO

I saw that dunk and had a problem with that call too. Just cause it's a call in another game doesn't mean it's not a shitty call. If the players are endangering someone or taunting I can see calling a technical foul, but seriously, just let the guys play the game. You never notice the refs when they are good.

  • In the Syracuse - Louisville game a couple weeks ago he called a foul then had to go to the monitor to figure out who to call it on. It's like he just assumes a foul was committed without actually seeing it happen. Makes me wonder how many times he's called a foul and randomly pointed at someone he thinks could have committed one.

  • Thx for posting the video. Yet another example of a washed up ref that should be given a shove out the door. At what point does the NCAA stop paying for gross incompetence?

  • I was pissed about the call but more because of Appling. He didn't need to do a chin-up with this dunk, just lay it in -- ala Wood's dunk a short time later. We just needed the points at that point.

That was a sweet technical though. It was like he couldn't really get up to the rim, so instead he was just going to bring the rim down to a more convenient height. lol
