    We have this curious habit of turning our dead into saints. Like all of the sudden you have to forget about all of their transgressions and cannot criticize anything they have done. I understand where it comes from, but it's misguided. It's not callous or disrespectful to remember the bad and the good. It's not a condemnation to point at things as an example of how not to live. JoePa chose to ignore reports of child rape, and many more victims suffered because of that decision. Cancer doesn't change that.

    Would you rather your kids hear: "(Cobain/Hendrix/Monroe/Paterno/etc.) are legends and icons. Aspire to be like them."
    or "This person had so much talent and potential, appreciate the good things they did, but understand it will always be tarnished. That's why they are tragic heroes."

    If your kids are UMaa fans, define "tragic hero" so they don't embarrass themselves in public. Then explain that they'll never reach their potential if they stay on the path they have chosen.

    For all Joe Pa did for football and PSU, I have a hard time moving past what he didn't do in the Sandusky situation.

    Not talking to Sandusky means nothing to me as posted in an earlier reply, not talking to PSU Brass or police means something. He put the PSU program above the lives of kids Sandusky molested and put Sandusky above those kids when he forced him to retire without pursuing Sandusky being charged criminally, and only showed remorse when it was exposed.

    I hope Joe Pa passes peacefully, but I hope he doesn't rest in peace.

    The boys Sandusky chose were ones who would have otherwise been orphans with terrible quality of life. Its not like he was plucking these kids from East Coast Prep schools. There is an argument to be made that he was actually helping them out.
