Joel Heath is a Beast...

Multiple members of MSU's lines wear knee braces. I don't think it's a big deal, and his performance today didn't make it seem like he's injured.

Yeah. It's mainly as a preventative measure. Nothing to worry about. There's a lot of weight that gets moved around on those knees.

So whats with his knee brace? Anything to be worried about?

Yeah...he has got them on both knees...most linemen wear them these days to prevent MCL/LCL tears when teammates fall on their legs from the side/back.

You can see the whole o-line wears them in this pic.

In fact I think some womens college hoops teams are having players wear knee braces as precautionary measure in practices because of how many knees get blown out in the womens game.

    Same with lineman in football.

  • In other news I heard MSUs o-line had a hard time pass protecting and that maxwell holds onto the ball to long.

Problem with scrimmages is you really can't tell how good the team I players are.

Have to wait until Boise state. I really hope MSUs o-line can improve on last year. Seems to me it has been MSUs Achilles heel for the last two years.

I am surprised our OL got completely dominated like that, but looking at the sacks, 3 DEs got in the sack column, but the 5 other guys were LBs or Safeties. Wonder how much we blitzed.

One name I didn't hear yet was Calhoun's.

    Per ESPN blog

"Defensive end Shilique Calhoun drew some advance praise to start the spring based on his work with the scout team last year. But defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi said he told Calhoun he's been disappointed with his play this spring and hopes he isn't just a scout-team wonder. Narduzzi hopes that will motivate Calhoun, who's very athletic."

Don't compare women's basketball to football linemen anymore.

  • I hope Heath is the real deal. I think Big Will is in for a pay day next year and having a clone would be real nice.

Liking our depth, hope it pans out.

Going to enjoy this season, but looking forward to many more under coach D.

My roommate (and much of America) last year went the whole season thinking Marcus Rush was black.

put marcus and Joel out there together and they'll dominate. each tackle with think they are supposed to block the other guy because he'll be told "you get Marcus" and naturally go after Heath lol

  • William Gholston and Joel Heath are just absolute physical specimens now who definitely pass the eyeball test and have been impressive in practice and were exceptional in Saturday's scrimmage. They are the Twin Towers, LOL

Gholston has elite athleticism and is quite fast at 6'7 280. Does Joel Heath also have that kind of speed or potential? After all, it's not all about size (see Tyler Hoover, who had the size but never was nearly as disruptive off the edge).

Facts are facts. Woman athletes blow knees out often. Men's knees are stronger. It has been such a problem with the MSU (woman's) basketball team they were looking into preventative measures as well. Not sure what was decided.

I think a couple of years ago they lost their first and second string pgs to knee injuries. I heard the coach talking about how it was a
Huge problem (knee injuries) in an interview.

  • Think Heath will work into anything more than a second stringer this year with gholston and rush there?

Too bad there can only be 11 guys on the field because this defense is looking scary good.

    Adams with two picks too.

  • That's the beauty of MD. Heath will definately see playing time, as long as he's producing. MD likes to rotate the lines around a bit and keep them fresh, so it will be nice to see the different combinations of DE's and D-line for that matter. Damn I can't wait for that Spring Game.

uhhhhh...........NO ............he doesn't. Some of you need to calm down JUST a bit. He has the same jersey number as Reggie, but certainly not as powerfully built as Reggie was at Tennessee...c'mon man.

Remember that 'sacks' in these are just touching the QB, not even wrapping up or two hands. I'm sure Cook took a lot of the sacks too as he's a scrambler and probably still looks to run first / too often for this level.

Also I'd expect a lot of indecision out of both he and Maxwell this early on in their development vs a proven D.

The OL was actually a strength toward the end of the year last year, I have no doubt it will be better this year after time to gel and get all their protections down.

I don't understand these comparison's to Will at all. Yeah, he's tall and black and a DE, but he hardly looks as filled out as Will did as a true frosh let alone a 2nd year guy.

Thankfully what is more important than how he looks, is that he can play, and it sounds like he can play, and he certainly has a great frame and 5 months to bulk up even more before he needs to hit an opponent as a backup.
