My wife was at 350K 3 years ago. She went to expensive schools and her family had no money so she took out some huge loans. This is with some really good scholarship money too.

That is the way to do it...But you(and I for doing it the same way) will just get put on blast because it was cheaper for us "back in the day" compared to now.

PS My last loan was paid off last April and the fucking idiots at the federal loan place charged my bank account twice for the last payment about 10 days apart. I called them up and asked what happened and it took 3 levels of service to actually get to a person that could look into the account to actually see bank information. Finally I was told to look for the credit in 6-8 weeks....It took 8 weeks.

Congrats! Kick student loans in the ass. Props to anyone who gets out of that shit early.

I doubt all of that $250K is in eligible federal loans. I suspect there are some private loans mixed in as well.

I'm over 2.5 years into my 10 years. Every time I look at new job I have to do the math to figure out whether the pay increase would be worth not having my $83K in loans wiped out in 2020. That would leave me with just my private loans which are currently sitting at about $52K. By 2020 I'll have those about half paid off.
