And to go totally off point...
TV guys could do a much better job announcing subs. Most of the times I have seen Kearney in the game its leads to a "when did he come in?" moment.

I had been hearing this since this summer. In fact, I actually PM'd Jack Ebling to see if he had heard anything. It finally got to the point where I figured it was just the same rumor circulating and eventually discredited it.
I guess there was more to it.

Wish he was staying because his leaving depletes guard depth. He is a good defender. That said, I wonder what his minutes would have been for the rest of the year. When Harris went out, the other guard's minutes went up so that 16.9 was higher than it might have been. Plus, Kearney got more preseason minutes against the likes of the Tuskegee Airmen than he would have in the BT against the Flying Illini. Harris and Valentine can play more.

My impression from the last two games was that Valentine and Trice were going to be getting more of the minutes that he had been playing, so I can see how he'd be disappointed. Still, mid-season is an odd time to transfer, throwing out a year's practice.
Does this timing allow him to start playing somewhere else in January 2014 (i.e. second semester next season)?

Yeah, his minutes the last two games were 12 and 8.
And yes, about a half dozen times in the thread people have posted this would allow him to play for someone else second semester next season.

Interesting. Of all those numbers and stats the only one I saw was 2.3ppg

Scoring wasn't Kearney's role on the team, he came in to defend and anything he did offensively was a bonus. That's probably why he's transferring

He was not recruited with the expectation that he would be the player he now is - one whose greatest value is as a defender in certain matchup situations. As a recruit he was a bit of a gamble. I often wondered if part of his intrigue as a recruit was because UM really wanted him.

If it wasn't for the fact that Izzo was half shocked I would have speculated that Kearney got kicked off for some sort of team rules violation, I mean how many other times have player decided to transfer mid season?
