Honestly I'm kind of pissed that a role player we had that was averaging 17 minutes a game has decided to transfer. I look at Kearney as kind of a Travis Releford type of player. He needed time to grow into being a tough scorer. He had potential and Izzo used him pretty well this season. It's really too bad that he decided to leave for "Greener pastures". Pun intended...because how bad ass would it be to play for Izzo!

Someone got in his ear over the Christmas break and convinced Kearney his "scoring talent" wasn't being showcased at MSU and he should transfer.

This is the first time Izzo has been blindsided since Lorbek. Sherman was losing PT when he decided to leave.

What I got from the article was what a smart, political, and classy series of commentary by his former HS coach.

Regarding Henton, Hindsight is 20/20. Had we signed him out of Eastern people would have lost it. Turns out he is a beast at the college level also.

Kearney was one of my favorite players but I just don't understand where he's coming from. He's a D1 role player, plain and simple. He's never going to go out and be a scorer, he doesn't have the athleticism or shooting ability. He won't ever play in the NBA but he had a damn good shot of winning a NC here.

If he was convinced Harris was going to leave, wouldn't he stay? If he was certain Harris was sticking around, the climb looked steeper.

If the coach had no idea he was going to leave, how does he know he won't go to the B1G? How does he know what type of situation he'll be looking for? He must have heard some things after the announcement.

And no possible destinations, unlike the headline claims.

that's kinda the feeling I was getting. But, anyone who thinks that he is a scoring talent is delusional. Appling was scoring 20 ppg in the PSL as a sophomore (and was upping it every year), while Kearney built up to scoring 18 ppg as a senior.

I don't know what Izzo could have done to keep Kearney. He was going to play in every game this season. Kearney was not scoring because he wasn't putting the ball in the basket. If he puts the ball in the basket, Izzo would call plays for him, because this team still isn't shooting the basketball like it needs to.
