Kicker on Kick Offs

  • CVSpartan said...

The kick coverage teams have a lot of impact on the kick off averages. I have no memory of the quality of Boleski's coverage teams vs. Muma's. If I had to speculate I would think that Muma's coverage teams are probably better since the team depth has been steadily improving.

The 64.8 avg for Boleski and 64.9 for Muma are the average kickoff yardage (distance from the tee to where the ball lands) and are not affected by the coverage units. The net kickoff average is the number that includes kick return yardage and would be closer to about 45 yards.

The kickoff coverage team has a lot of impact on net yards, not kicking yards. Kicking yards is a pure measure of how far the ball goes.

  • You sound like you have no idea what you are talking about.

    OTPT

  • 4th in the conference in avg KO (29th nationally)
6th in the conference in touchback % (31st nationally)

I think the new rules work in Muma's favor.

  • Thanks for the link.

Actually, based on that link Muma is an average B10 kicker - 6th in touchback %. Notice that was the important measure the authorities used to rank the teams in the conference.

Sorry but that proves my point. Last year according to that ranking measurement there were 5 B10 kickers which were better.

Now once again - if he is the best we have great. Just don't pretend that it is impossible to find a better kicker.

Now run along and play boys.

Why do you refuse to acknowledge/address how the rule changes impact this "theory" of yours?

You sound like a fucking moron, dude. Dantonio puts the best players on the field whether they be true Freshmen, walkons, or 5th year Seniors. Muma was the best at that position last year, and unless something happens this year, which none of use will know until probably right before the season starts, Muma will be the starter next year.

Exactly. We will know by the Spring game if Muma keeps kicking off. By the way - I will be certain to bump this thread should Muma lose the kick off job. I hope you clowns will eat crow should that happen. Somehow I doubt that.

  • As long as we are dreaming I say we bring back the Danes. Really, I think we had more of a coverage problem then a kicking problem. Just my 2cents worth.

Somehow I doubt it too seeing as how Muma will be the kicker. Run along now, you've been completely torched in this thread.

  • I just want to know how you can claim that Muma isn't as good as Boleski on kickoffs and then ignore the fact that Muma had better season numbers last year than any year Boleski ever had. lol

    Muma, Kevin 83 5401 65.1 17 1
    Muma, Kevin 74 4773 64.5 13 2

    Boleski, Todd 72 4665 64.8 17 0
    Boleski, Todd 79 5014 63.5 10 0
    Boleski, Todd 45 2731 60.7 16 0

If nobody knows anything other than the fact the Muma started ALL last season, then why are you asking if we have a better option. All this thread was to hate on him. Boleski's stats, who you've been wanting to have another of, are almost identical to Muma's yet you haven't responded to that yet. Just stop while you are behind. Way, way behind.

to WHO? who is this mythical future Groza award winner that Dantonio has been hiding that will trot out in the spring game and unseat our starting kick off man - who was actually slightly better than your beloved Boleski - despite the fact that Muma is perfectly capable of doing the job he is asked to do, do it well, and common sense suggests will do it better this year?!?!

WHO? the central premise of your argument is that we can just go "find" another kick off guy like they grow on trees. Other than a hypothetical soccer savant, you have offered zero alternatives to the present line-up, and refuse to acknowledge that there isn't even a NEED for change at any of the three spots. IT ARE NOT WEAKNESS.

You truly appear to have severe issues with critical thinking and basic logic. You have ignored every reasonable question here and then dismissed everyone pointing out what a moron you are by calling THEM immature lol

Muma slept with his woman and now he's trying everything in his power to get him to lose his kicking job.

  • I like when the kicker drops it inside the 10 and forces a return, our coverage is pretty good. With the touchbacks coming out to the 25 this will prob become the new strategy like in the NFL anyway.

Our coverage was actually a bit sub-par last year. It hurt us big time in the ND game and in the Georgia game, we could have avoided halftime if not for poor coverage.

I don't know if 9th in the conference last year is "pretty good", but still under 25 yards.

It'll be interesting to see the strategies that develop out of the new rules on both sides, and if any unintended results arise.

  • This is becoming tiresome. This will be my last post on this thread. Believe or not most people on this board don't come here to read assorted anonymous posters bash each other.

This is a board about MSU sports. Get it? Furthermore, if you want to downvote my posts go ahead - enjoy. I am not the one who started the bashing or went off on irrelevant tangents.

Did not bash Muma. Just started a discussion regarding the possibility that MD could find a better kicker. I didn't say Muma sucked. I said he was average.

I hope he does better next season. If so I will be the first to come here and say so.peace
