Spartan Legends - Lorenzo White - Spartan ...

During his college career at Michigan State, Lorenzo White racked up over 4,500 yards on the ground and scored 41 TDs. He was a 2x All-American (1985, 1987) and finished 4th in Heismann voting both those seasons. Music: Eric B & Rakim - I Ain't No Joke

  • Unbelievable how he didn't win the Heisman. Tim Brown ends the year with two mediocre games and still wins it.

Great video, like all the rest.

  • Bump so the Spartan youth can catch up on their history. Dude was the best running back MSU has ever had.

It was just a mistake; I didn't mean to let them take away my soul. Am I too old? Is it too late?

  • Man, as a recent spartan alum, I have not seen a RB with dangles like his. He was literally making people trip and fall over themselves. Very Barry Sanders esque. From my recent history I don't even think Javon or Bell even made moves like him. Anyone else have a spartan back comparable to him?

And pietrang as always +1. Good work on the 2011-2012 highlight vid as well!!!!

Actually, Lo should of won the Heisman the year before. He had a better year than both Bo Jackson and Chuck Long ( closet vote in history with Jackson winning). Brown won the Hesiman in 1987 largley becasue of his unreal game in South Bend against MSU. I was at that game and will never forget a a couple of things: Blake Ezor taking a safety on the opening kickoff and Brown's kick returns. Greg Montgomery is still loooking for his jock strap.

Edit: White's huge year was 1985, his sophmore season. He was hurt for much of his junior year.

Yep. Best ever and I don't think anyone else is close.

    Its five o'clock somewhere.

I was there too, and agree. Why did we kick it to Brown even once, let alone twice, ugghh. Don't forget Lo got hurt in 86. Can't remember if he missed a game but the injury definitely impacted his production.

    Its five o'clock somewhere.

You mean 1985 when he was a soph? Vinny Testaverde won it by a landslide in 1986. 1900 yards that year, I wonder if he hadn't been a soph that year or if he would have put up those numbers as a senior, it would have been different.

If he hadn't been a sophomore in 1985, he would have won it. Stupid that only really seniors and occasionally a junior could win it back then.

  • I didn't get to see him play in person, he was before my time, but every time I see highlights of him my jaw drops. Thanks for the video.

  • When Lorenzo would give that little waggle with his index finger, you knew it was 6 pts.....

Also, saw him leap over a guy at Indiana his sophmore year and go another 25 yards.....

I doubt I will ever see a back that could run like LW suit up for us again... We can only hope somebody comes close.

While Lorenzo did have more yards than Jackson, I don't think he would have won it (not saying he didn't deserve it, just that he wouldn't have won it if he was an upperclassman). Bo averaged an unreal 6.4 ypc that season, had over 1700 yards and matched Lorenzo with 17 TD's. Also, Auburn was a pretty hyped up team that year, preseason #1, though they ened up 8-4 (to MSU's 7-5).

I have often said that we won the Heisman for Brown that year - giving up to punt returns for TDs.banghead

Yep. My buddies and I were saying as we walked out of ND stadium that night: We just won the Heisman for Tim Brown.

  • He deserved the Heisman. . . but he gave me one of the most fun afternoons I've ever had in Pasadena. . . LO is the greatest running back I've ever seen at State, and also a very nice guy.

Yep - I'm hoping to release several "Spartan Legends" videos to help the MSU football education process of new Spartan youths that have heard incorrect rumors.

These rumors include, but are not limited to the following:

    A) Michigan has always owned MSU in football
    B) The Notre Dame Rivalry is not important
    C) We are only a basketball school

Eric "the flea" Allen...while not quite at Lo's talent level was really fun to watch run. Loved every time Lorenzo touched the ball and also really enjoyed watching Mandarich just destroy D linemen.
