Korie Lucious has been dismissed from the team for this season

They're a loss to Michigan away from a total tailspin into NIT depths.

Day Day isn't gonna let that happen.

  • Wow. This is just turning out splendidly now isn't it. My thoughts....

Izzo looked like a COMPLETE wreck, like he had just aged another 10 years and put on 15 lbs.

We will miss Korie. He played more D then people give credit for, better than Kalin (who NEVER guards anyone until they get past the 3 point line....I will NEVER understand this)

Korie was due to get hot, he's a very good shooter in a bad slump, we could have rode him for a few games almost guaranteed.

I think the WORST thing to happen to Korie was to hit that game winner last year, probably got in his psyche the wrong way and made him think he was invincible, took away his drive, he relaxed and obviously didn't put the work in in the offseason and didn't stay out of trouble. Which is still confounding since he wasn't even a starter yet regularly, you'd think he'd still have something to prove.

This could unleash Summers, if he can get his head out of his azz long enough to play ANY defense and actually move without the ball and go after rebounds. I swear, other than shooting the trey, he has cement in his shoes or just doesn't like to move without the ball.

This will shake up the team and the coach. I think maybe the biggest problem we've had is all the asst. coaches we've lost over the years. I have a feeling they did a lot more behind the scenes with the players, keeping them focused and engaged. This is SERIOUSLY lacking. I don't have faith in most of the asst. coaches we have, despite what others think. Ex-players don't always make great coaches and mentors. These players are not responding and not buying in 100% like in years past. Though I think the core group could still gel together.....maybe.

This is Day Day's team. Period. He is the only one to show true emotion, back it up, and show improvement. He's young, becoming unstoppable, has the personality and can now seize the moment and take over. Kalin has lost the team's and his own confidence and is nothing more than a good role player now(face it, he's short, slower and no long range shot) We are weak at guard now, though hopefully Kalin can get something back he had, though I've hardly even seen flashes yet. I hope he can recover, but not looking good.

Lastly, and just an observation.....I still can't understand why we aren't a fast-breaking team, like we used to be when we'd break on anyone anytime even after made baskets. We have a team of mostly athletic freaks, fast, etc. But we don't even look for the outlet pass anymore. I remember back "in the day", when as SOON as we'd grab a rebound, everyone would start a full out sprint down the court and the outlet would be there in the flash of an eye, 2 passes later and no dribbles we'd have a layup. We haven't done that once this year other than an obvious uncontested break. Disappointing, and this is ALL coaching, it's not like they try it and just can't do it, they hang back and don't even try to break unless there is someone flying free. So pisses me off, that was my favorite part of our team, we'd overwhelm teams that were bigger, longer, etc. and they couldn't recover or catch up. Now we slow it down all the time, and any team bigger/longer than us eats us up. I just don't understand.

Well I guess this turned into a diatribe. Had to vent.

  • Watch out Lucious! Watch out! Ok Izzo's over there. lol

All kidding aside, msu this could be your 2005 michigan football parallel universe basketball team.

I love how quickly everyone has forgotten that he hit a huge shot in the tournament against Maryland and that he was a key reason that we made the final four last year.

Hopefully we will be playing with some bigger lineups now

Everyone remembers the game-winning shot, but forgets that MSU was up 18 points when Kalin got hurt. Korie turned the ball over like crazy in the second half, allowing Maryland to take a late lead.

To his credit, Korie greatly limited his turnovers in the Elite Eight and Final Four.

  • This season was already partially (if not totally) spoiled before the dismissal. I feel bad for the teammates and the coaching staff but they must look forward and look to rebuild confidence if not for the rest of this season, for next season.

I bought some batteries, but they weren't included... so I had to buy them again. What do batteries run on?

I love people who come on here and act like they have completely figured it out. How the F do you know how that shot affected Korie. Did you interview him?

Do me a favor and keep your retarded diatribes to yourself.

I can't believe I read more than 3 paragraphs of that nonsense.

I know things were rough in the post Flint Stones era -- the weave, All Eyes On Me, the Brandon Cotton debacle -- but I'm down on this team worse than at any point since 1997. The vibe around this program feels eerily similar to that of the Marcus Taylor led 2002 squad. They're a loss to Michigan away from a total tailspin into NIT depths. We're spoiled, but years of mediocre play followed by "turning it on" for the tournament have to catch up to this program at some point.

"Years of mediocre play followed by "turning it on" for the tournament"? What world do you live in where 24-8, 25-6 and 25-8 are mediocre?

  • A couple of comments and then I'll hang up and listen.

    1) Why is not just sitting him for a game or 2 or more not an option? If its a chemistry thing, he is just caving to the ego causing the problem by pushing someone off the team. It seems that what Izzo is doing isnt working. If you have to get rid of Allen and now Lucious to placate Lucas or Summers or both, there is something rotten in Denmark.

    2) This season explains why Izzo was so seriously considering a NBA job. What a nightmare I can barely stand to watch this team. I cant even imagine how tough it would be to be coaching it.

Izzo is fine, his bank account is fine.............I feel sorry for NO ONE. The team will be fine. After Thursdays' game , everyone will think its a blessing.

UM, Green Bay and Chicago teams all have one thing in common: They all suck

    1. Korie was basically on notice following his arrest earlier in the year. His leash was probably shorter as a result. And we have no idea what he did. 2. When someone offers you double your salary to do your job at your profession's highest level, you're going to consider it. I wouldn't read too much more into it than that.

Given Izzo's current appearance and demeanor, I doubt he's "fine". That said, he's extremely well compensated and taken care of. I don't feel bad for him-the headaches come with the big office. Just hope his health is okay.

He's talking about those mediocre Big Ten championships we've had to suffer.

  • I don't know what the kid did, but I hope he works his way back. He still has a future in pro ball if he doesn't throw it away.

And, thanks for the Final Four banner. Without him, we go home the first weekend of the tournament.

Wow. Really? Is that how far you have lowered your expectations? I feel bad for you.

I think 'happy' is a relative term at this point.

Expectations at the beginning of the year were for another Final Four run. Anyone who hasn't lowered expecations is setting themselves up for serious disappointment.

To say we won't miss him is fucking crazy and stupid ! This is a bigger set back than morans like you realize. Prepare to see bigger doses of Kiebler and Thornton. You will be wishing Korie was back on the team come tourney time !

I sure don't think it was grades. The semester just started. Maybe he didn't attend class?? I thought he got punished for this a year or two ago.

Izzo has said publicly that Korie is a good student. Seriously doubt that's the reason.

I agree Korie hasn't been shooting well, but he has been a very good defender, especially for his size. This is no way addition by subtraction, he played 24 minutes a game. Who gets those minutes?

Hopefully Joe Rexrode is wrong and this team won't pay dearly for Lucious' mistake.
