Seems like a classic "go big" or "not at all" moment.
Either we mega do not care about this....
OR
We hit them where it hurts -- in the wallet. Our student body is 50,000 strong. If 1 in 10 students usually buys the game, that's 5,000 sales. Assume 2x that for MSU alumni -- that becomes about 15,000 sales total. At $50 per game, that's $750,000 -- three quarters of a million dollars. This is a decent dent. NCAA Football is a marginal success for EA at best -- they barely sell a million copies of each release (Xbox+PS3 combined).
If we reach out to everyone from MSU over this site, facebook, posters on campus, columns in LSJ / mlive etc. and make sure that MSU fans boycott the game, EA games will have to take notice. Possible outcomes: an apology and an explanation as to how it happened. Or a patch released over xbox live and ps network. Perhaps the UM slappy that worked that into the game gets fired. Firing is a possible outcome -- something like this could be considered an "easter egg" -- a fireable offence in many software companies. Admittedly, game developers actually love their easter eggs, but if it's costing them sales, it might be a different story.
Go big or not at all. Either we do this all the way, or we don't let it bother us at all. i.e. either we succeed, or we look like whiny little bitches. Thoughts?
hoke- to alter or manipulate so as to give a deceptively or superficially improved quality or value.
