Kurelic’s Michigan 2014 Top 10

Mark Dantonio is off to a very good start when it comes to the Michigan class of 2014 with commitments from three of the Top 10 prospects. Who else is he going after in-state?

  • Not sure how Drake Harris isn't #1?? He could be the #1 player in 2013 class. There isn't anyone in the 2013 class i would take over Harris.

Not sure who he put at #1, but to me Damon Webb and Drake Harris are the two clear best players in the state. Both are going to be big time players.

Yep. It would've been funny to go back a dozen years and see what would've happened to CRog's rating if he had committed to MSU early. Unquestionably the best player in the state (like Drake), but an early commit from Rogers and we would've ended up seeing Jermaine Gonzalez or Kelly Baraka #1. For Christ sake Will Campbell and kevin grady were 5*.

  • I was a big Kelly Baraka fan before he committed to UM. He was a year behind CRog. I watched him beat both Crog and Shwigert in the 200m Dash at the state meet. fastest kid I ever seen in HS. Was he ever interested in MSU??I don't recall.

Yeah, but Grady and Campbell were fucking beasts in high school. It's not really the recruiting services fault that they turned into fat slobs that didn't want to work hard.

  • McDowell is going to look like Will Cambell on film just because of his size. He plays in Div8. He's 3-4 times the size of most kids he's going up against.

    hayesr8

  • What's his name, McDowell, hasn't he pretty much been the consensus number one in the state all along? Harris then Webb after him is what I've seen or at least remember seeing.

After watching McDowell in the state championship game against Ishpeming I wasn't very impressed.

Campbell was a fat, lazy nothing in high school and lo and behold, he was a fat, lazy nothing in college.

He was fat, but he was pretty fucking good. There was a reason the whole SEC wanted him.

Sorry, Bill...you had nothing to do with this perception, but your colleagues at other recruiting services have and continue to do so.

That's just it. He wasn't that good. I remember his recruitment vividly. I also remember the walverines throwing a hissy fit when Matt Dorsey/Jim Comparoni ranked Campbell the #12 recruit in Michigan. Dorsey said that Campbell's rating was based completely on potential because his production was pathetic. He played on a HS all star team at Cass but he was never the best player on his own team let alone the state. He had all those offers because he was 6'5 315 and could walk and chew gum so there was potential. Antonio Jeremiah had it too, and like Campbell it stayed as just potential.

With McDowell, it's all based on potential. Without a doubt if Harris hadn't committed to us so early and still had the Alabama and Michigan recruiting sites pining for an interview with him, he'd be ranked higher. Also, he didnt partake in summer camps due to basketball conflicts.

I don't usually buy into the conspiracy crap, but here, I truly think that his ranking will forever be affected by the fact that he isn't still drawing recruiting buzz and attention from fanbases that drive income to sites like this.

Bullshit. We hear constantly that these rankings are about "potential" and there were many MSU guys who stated all along that Campbell didn't have the potential to be great largely due to work ethic. That's part of the equation for potential that these analysts don't take into consideration. Work ethic, drive and character.

  • He's the number two player in the state and a top 100 guy. It's not like they forgot about him. I can't understand all the complaining about rankings, when all I hear otherwise is they don't matter. I'm excited to have Drake Harris. Would be excited to have McDowell. Would be excited to have anyone in the 2014 class the staff deems worthy of an offer at this time. I don't need a number one ranking to do so. That might give me a little grin, but it's not going to bring me down by not having it. Not going to spend a bunch of time bitching about it either. Makes it sweeter when we win on the field. Just win baby.

  • People forget that on some sites Will Campbell took a late plunge and was only a 4 star after that.

McDowell is a beast, he's been a star at summer camps and deserved to be #1 entering this season. Harris just had the best season in MHSAA history for a WR and he did it playing one of the toughest schedulkes in the state and lead his team to the title over OLSM. Kid should be a 5 star, but then again so should McDowell.

Drake Harris goes to school down the street from where I live, I know people who know him and his family and coaches. He's a good kid and he's a great reciever. I really think he compares favorably to Charles Rogers out of HS. Rogers was definitely a step faster, but I think Harris has better hands and is a better jumper. They both showed great body control, but Harris catches the ball with his hands more often than not, Rogers rarely caught the ball with his hands even after he left MSU. Harris will have a new QB next season, so I doubt he puts up 2000 yards again.
