Larry Caper

  • I don't think I've ever wanted a single player to succeed more than him, he has had the worst luck. He was the guy coming into 2010 and injuries and Bell being @a monster have just killed him. Part of me wants him to go for 1,500 yards, then LeVeon can just come back and have 1500 next year.

  • He has NFL talent and he's healthy for the first time since 2009. He's one of the hardest workers on the team, and if he stays healthy all season he'll put up some numbers, even running behind Bell.

Great hands and decent blocking ability

Has a chance to make an NFL roster as a 3rd down back. A position still coveted and needed by NFL teams

Maybe a 7th round pick if lucky

  • Caper's history of concussions is going to hurt him no matter what he does in the 2012.
He was most recently dinged this spring.

  • I agree with the OP, but I have a feeling Nick Hill is going to surpass Caper as the #2 back by the middle or end of season.

  • LC has always had the right attitude. . . playing special teams when necessary and leading by example. If he doesn't play pro ball it won't be the end. . . he will succeed in whatever he pursues. He is also one of my favorite Spartans and I'll be rooting for him.clap

  • Captain this year?

  • Hope he has a monster year to close out his time as a spartan. Will always remember that run vs UofM to win at SS

  • The Capers lived three doors down from me when I was growing up, and Larry's dad was the football coach at my middle school (after I went off to HS). Great family, and I really hope he succeeds

  • Even with Bell ahead of him, Caper will have the opportunity for a 1,000 yard season. This year sets up perfectly for a run heavy offense (great D, run minded coach, inexperienced QB, big OL, etc.)

As boring as it sounds, I've always hoped that Dantonio would pick one game (maybe EMU) and not throw a single pass. That would be bad ass and very intimidating. Keep the WRs happy with some reverses, tosses and laterals for shits and giggles.

  • I'll never forget that great run he had against scum a few years back to win the game in OT

    Hunter42MSU

  • He deserves the chance to play. Most kids would've transfered or quit. I will be cheering for him as well. Soft spoken, polite person.

If he did nothing else in an MSU inform, he would still be etched in Spartan lore for that play alone.

  • Caper has had some bad breaks and this has allowed his character to show throw. I love this kid's attitude. He never complains and he keeps working hard. He's a great Spartan!

Didn't his dad play at Western?

I don't know but they live in downtown Battle Creek and he attended BC Central HS. The kid was a stud recruit and IF HEALTHY has all of the tools necessary to start on any college roster in the nation.

  • I think Larry has a chance at the NFL with his pass catching ability. Like someone mentioned above the NFL loves the 3rd down backs and IMO he is our best pass catching RB. And even if he doesn't make it, the kid has the right attitude about everything, he could have transferred, complained, got into trouble etc.. but he never did. I hope he has a great year as our #2 and with this offense this year I can see two 1,000 yd backs. And if we are pounding the ball like we all think we are going to, Bell is going to need to get a breather for a series here and there and even a few downs during a drive. We are lucky that we have two backs as proven and talented as Bell and Caper, keeps them fresh throughout the game.

I was thinking what a stupid call I thought it was as they handed it off to Caper. With his fumbling problems earlier and I thought they were just playing for the FG at that time, then it looked like he would be taken down pretty easily around the line of scrimmage and then just a great effort to get to the endzone forever to be one of my most memorable plays as it was my first time I have seen MSU beat Michigan in person.

When Caper and Baker came in together I was a Baker guy at first and then as their careers evolved I am pulling for Caper to finish strong and get a shot at his dream.

  • Caper has never bitched about playing time or his bad injury luck. The kid deserves to have a healthy, successful season.

Yep. I think he may still hold some rushing records there too.

  • We all know the dude can play. I think his lack of PT here might play in his favor once he hits the NFL. Running backs take a pounding and there are alot of miles left on those tires.

Why can't they both have 1500 this year. Just need to do what Renaud & Irvin did to PSU that time, and get them both off at the same time!

AND he went to the same HS as my dad. Yes, I'm pulling for him big-time.

First time I'd ever seen the spartan2 beat the Wolvies, too. I didn't see the play, though. Caper ran toward us, and down the sideline directly into the scUM section. lol Couldn't see the play, but I knew it was good when the crowd roared like a friggin' jet engine taking off. woot
