Law School Applications Down 15.6%

  • People finally took our collective advice not to waste the money on law school! http://www.nationaljurist.com/content/applications-down-156-admits-could-be-even-lower#.T5ceL3zCz4A.facebook

The article says it could be the smallest applicant pool since 1996. Good work guys.

I think there are one or two states left where you can do this.

Edit to add. Allegedly there are 7 states where you can do this.

  • This is great news.

I think it would be great if more states adopted an alternative track for people to become lawyers. Work as a legal intern/paralegal for a "sponsor", then take a year or so of "core classes", work for another year as a provisional attorney, then study for and take the bar exam. It would be far more productive than having hundreds of people going to a school like Cooley only to discover that (1) they hate doing actual legal work, (2) they aren't smart enough to do legal work or (3) they can't get a legal job (or some combination of the three), and would involve much less debt for the students who took that route. (And they wouldn't be taking on debt for the two or three semesters of required core classes until it was reasonably certain that they have the interest level, skill and employability to actually recoup the investment after being admitted to the bar.)

Yeah but, the laws school and the ABA would never allow that to be mainstream. nono

  • alright good, Less lawyers in the world would be a good thing. I do know from experience that lawyers can be very helpful, but that is only the case because other lawyers have made bullshit laws and regulations or another person is giving you shit.

  • Great to read. Eff lawyers. Assholes the lot of them.

  • The only problem is that applicants are still getting rejected. This will only be an issue when there are more spots to fill than applicants.
