Lawrence Thomas to DE

A VERY "Rich Man's" version of Clifton Ryan is what I'd love to see.

A giant LB Recruit who started his career at DE, and eventually was a DT... I believe he's STILL in the NFL too.

No longer in NFL. Concussions unfortunately keep him from playing. Too bad in that he was a starter in St Louis.

Ok, that made me laugh roflmao

They could have the whole team come out first, then have a ton of fog/smoke from the tunnel, with that clip from Clash of the Titans . . . and just have LT walk slowly to midfield by himself.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

    yep...i can vouch for this.

he's been saying it for at least 10 years now.

not that long. maybe 7 years.

The thing about LT is we havent seen him do anything yet. His career has been checkered with the inuries, weight gain and position switches. Now in his 2nd year he is 3rd string. Lets hope he can make an impact this year. A guy like him with his high rating should have a starting position by the end of year 2 or start of year 3. He could have been a monster MLB if he kept his weight 250-260. That ship has sailed. This year will be very pivotal for Lawrence. I think he will ultimately end up in the middle of the DL playing at over 300lbs which is where he might be needed the most considering what we have in the pipeline for interior guys.

What a bunch of drivel. You're the same UM blower that is convinced Will Campbell is legit after 3+ years on the field and nothing to show for it. Yet Thomas is in his rs frosh season on a top 5 defense nationally and if he's not starting then something's wrong. Obvious trolling walverine is obvious.

His "career" has consisted of 1 season. Let's not bury him just yet; he's a RS FR.

not to mention he's learning a whole new position that he's never played before.

Joel Heath might be that replacement. 6'6 265lb and he ran a pretty good 40 at MSU's camp from what I remember. Duane Long was raving about his athleticism.

Heath also looked like a man in the Spring game

Dantonio also said Taiwan Jones is getting reps at DE......waves of guys will be coming off the edge.

Jones makes sense to me; seeing him up close at the kids camp before the Spring game, he just looks like a DE as he's gotten a lot bigger.

He might be the best overall athlete on the team. I realize it's HS, but when we were recruiting him he looked as explosive on offense as defense. It was looked like a college/NFL sized athlete playing against HS kids. We just need to find a place to get him out there on a regular basis because the possibilities are endless with a guy like that.

Don't forget about all of the good news we were getting on Knox who appeared to be a project when he got on campus. If that works out it could keep us from needing to move ends to tackle.

About the only thing I agree with in your post is that LT hasn't proven anything yet. I only highlighted this portion to say "not so fast." If LT still moves well, I could see a Levon Kirkland-type player in certain packages in the middle.

Dantonio is just the kind of guy to try something because someone told him "you can't do that."

82walverine also neglects to mention some guy named max Bullough at MLB or this Reschke kid who just might be able to play competent fball at the position.

Is there a question? Prospect adds alot of weight/bulk and as a fan we hope its used to his advantage, teams advantage, etc The only other player of recent past that put on 'alot' of weight and was exposed is Jeremiah. Hope this clears up your head.

Bad comparison. Jeremiah got huge from fat, flashed potential on plays but was too fat.

LT has never stepped onto the field, thus has never shown anything. The weight he's gained has been muscle. He is not fat, nor is he out of shape. Completely different scenario as of now.

And what makes you think we won't be fine? Barring an implosion of a season, I have zero worries with this staff. Not only is MSU winning big, but the little things, like the HUGE video board and 9 guys from this past team ending up in NFL camps will also start to come in play.

Nothing... I'm not worried at all.

About this year. Lineman recruiting is rarely about this season, or even the next...

Didn't Will put on a bunch of weight to play DE? Perhaps not as much as where Thomas is listed, if that's right.

50-60 pds in 2 years seems like an awful lot in a short time. BUT AGAIN, HOPEFULLY HE BECOMES THE FORCE HE WAS IN HS AT LB.......ONLY AT THE DE POSITION WITH THE ADDED WEIGHT.

We hooked Salmon (sorry, I feel so dirty for even typing that), and we're players for several other solid guys.

We also have a ton of youth on both lines.

A successful year again, and the possibility of 3 guys from the DL to the NFL after this year....not worried. Long way to signing day.

Salmon is also an undersized 2* who hasn't been on campus yet.

Gotta look at it pessimistically. At least I do. He's a rotation guy. Maybe a Rich Man's Jonathan Strayhorn.

Just a question, what from this staff, with a large body of work to pull from, gives you the impression Salmon would ever be just that? They pulled another kid who is being mildly recruited out of Florida. Last two? Kings, who ended year as player of the year in South Florida, and Ceaser, who as a RS Frosh in right in the mix for a ton of playing time.

Dude's 6'2 277 before his SR year of HS and you're worried about his size? lol Come on. If he was 235, then sure, but that's plenty of size for a DT out of HS. Hell, Sheldon Day was a 4-star at 6'1 275 last year.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.
