Le Tour de France - 2011

  • I hope Contador falls and breaks his foot on the first day. He's a prooven cheater, yet the Euro spank fest media hasn't barbequed him like they do with Americans.....

    The Matador

  • The problem is that Andy Schleck's no angel either. With BMC (seriously we didn't know Sven S. worked for us even though he was listed on our website 3 hours after he was arrested) and OPL now being investigated, Gesink and Samuel Sanchez might be the only podium contenders that don't have a cloud at the moment. I'm rooting for Gesink even though I fully expect him to blow him up on Galibier or at the ITT.

oh they have and they will....

Contador got crushed at the opening ceremony on thursday night... the french papers have crushed him... no one believes he should be in the TDF at all, but legally he is allowed to compete till the appeal in september... so nothing they can do...

but believe me... he is getting hammered!

I wouldn't say that gesnick and sanchez aren't the only ones... i have high hopes for Wiggins this year for a top 3.... especially since he kept up with sanchez in the dauphne...

the problem for sanchez is that his team is going to be crushed in the team time trial... and from then on he is going in be in catch up mode.....

The booing at the opening ceremony was tremendous. Also if Contador somehow wins this (making a total mockery of the sport in the process), 3 GT wins would be on the line in September. The downside is the new winners would be Scarponi, A. Schleck, and ???

I just don't see how Wiggins can do well in this route. There's only one ITT and 4 brutal MTF finishes. I have a feeling like Gesink he will blow up somewhere.

  • Roll just said Contador should be given the benefit of the doubt? Hold on here. He started his career with Manolo Saiz, rode for Bruyneel, and now rides for Riis. And he failed a test when he wasn't riding for any of the three. Yes he should really be given the benefit of the doubt. smh

Watching Versus. I wish I was watching Eurosport. Their coverage of the Giro was fantastic.

  • Farrar and Greipel outfox Cav on the first intermediate sprint. Interesting.

  • Stage 1 and it's clear that Phil and Paul have lost it. OPL isn't chasing for Greipel. They're chasing for Gilbert (who Phil picked in the prerace show).

  • I'm really excited for the team time trial. LOVE that stage.

the only thing about the team time trial tomorrow is that the stage is actually a short one... only just under 25km.... I think it should have been at least twice that.....

Team time trial is too early in the race IMO. I like to see that about mid-race. It breaks up the monotony of the stages, especially the flat stages. At least there's plenty of mountain stages this year. Wish there was a mountain ITT, but I think those are a thing of the past now. Shucks, only one ITT seems criminal too. At least it's on the second to the last day, so maybe that might make a difference if there's two or three guys close. (Still love that ITT for the last stage where LeMond won. All time classic, but I doubt the French will ever let that happen again... probably pissed off forever about an American winning on the Champs-Élysées on the final stage when their boy was in the lead. Too bad for him that he had hemorrhoids.)

  • Huge crash! The peloton has split with about 10K to go.

Edit: Some asshole spectator was too close to the side of the road, clipped a rider, who then bounced to his left and took out a bunch of other dudes. I bet they're pissed.

He's what, 30 seconds back? Gonna take a lot of doping to make that up.

Maybe he can steal some of BMC's.

  • Gesink crashed as well.

    sprtnbrn

  • Well that was academic for Gilbert.

    sprtnbrn

  • What en exciting finish. Cancellara came out of nowhere, Gilbert stuck with him, and Cadel Evans snuck into second.

Contador AND Schleck lost some serious time there.

  • Evans and JVDB (possibly Basso as well) gained a bunch of time on the favorites.
