Le'veon Bells apparent "non-TD"

  • jabroni said...

If you think our O-line is good...then I just can't help you. Their ceiling is average and they usually play below it. It doesn't help their cause that they have a QB who shits his pants with any pressure. If there is a stat for throw-aways, Maxwell has GOT to be leading the nation, he just gives up if anyone is near him. I think he has a ton of talent but I don't think he's a gamer with much will to win. Frustrates the shit out of me when he won't run with a clear opening too.

Your analysis of Maxwell brings back memories of Cousins during his first year.

  • Live, I saw it as a TD. On replay, I saw it as a TD. Have no idea how either live or on replay they didn't see it that way. Of course, the replay didn't confirm the call, just gave the BS "Not-enough-evidence" call, which I have no clue how they reached that decision.

Not really. I actually believe Maxwell probably has a better arm and more athletic than Cousins but Cousins was better. He just had that fire and will to win. Maxwell simply doesn't. Yea Cousins frustrated us with costly INT's but at least he had the GUTS to try to make a play. Maxwell is content to throw the ball away or slide and hope the D comes up big again. Did anyone else noticed on a third down today and Maxwell ran off the field to the sideline and the coaches had to tell him it was only third down? wtf! Gamers want to stay out on FOURTH down. Maxwell just doesn't have it in him. He is content to play decent and let things fall as they may. Cousins wanted to fucking win. End rant.

  • Ok well I apologize for the crappy quality. It is crystal clear and seems more zoomed in on my phone but some quality must have been lost. I'm technologically retarded so if there is a way to improve quality let me know (I uploaded in HD format).

Harder to tell on the video but on my phone it is very clear that the ball crosses the goal line and it doesn't look like his knee hit before that.

we both thought it was a TD. we both thought we should be able to get a 1/2 yard on fourth down.

o-line "they.are.awful." this, i call you on your bullshit.

i don't think they had one holding or illegal procedure the whole game. bell rushed for 140 yards. yes, maxwell was sacked (only) three times, one of which was on bell. maxwell had ample time to throw today.

and for that matter, the o-line played their best game of the year against nebraska, and played pretty damn well against wisconsin.

this is the big ten. the trenches are TOUGH. dirty, nasty, hard-hitting, etc.

show me a QB who DOESN'T get his jersey "dirty". you don't think these d-line from other teams don't have talent ?

i've come to conclusion, we are SNAKEBIT. i get so worked up for these damn games, i can't even talk to my wife and daughters for hours afterwords.

i'm down. i wanna puke, but i will be ROOTING LIKE HELL TO BEAT MINNESOTA. that is all.

He ran for 140 yards on over 30 carries. Even with a decent offensive line he should have gotten over 200 yards with that many carries.

  • Anyone have the TV feed? The one replay in the stadium looked clear TD.

  • BS call. Why in the world the refs aren't trained to call a TD on a potentially controversial scoring play every time is beyond me. They're all reviewed upstairs regardless on a score. Given the standard of evidence to overturn a call, they should defer to the score and have the booth recall it - the conclusive evidence standard works against the no call ( not signaling the score) way more than it ever does the other direction. Deferring to the score gives teams the most fair opportunity percentage wise for the correct call to stand.

  • I don't know how you can't overturn Bell's run and then watch the Oregon/Stanford game and see how their replay official handled the call. ABC froze the frame where the Stanford guy briefly had possesion and in bounds by an inch, but if you went just a frame further, he rejuggled the ball again and by the time he completely gathered it in, he was OB. If there was ever a play you could call it both ways and be correct, that would be it.

I thought Bell's run was FAR more obvious than Stanford's play, but not when MSU is involved.

i thought THE EXACT SAME THING, at the EXACT SAME TIME you did.

yesterday i was shocked about the non-reversal, this morning i'm more pissed off and disgusted that these f'in guys can't get it right, what the F were they watching in the replay booth ?????????

our kids played their asses off, and frankly, they deserve better.

I'm pretty sure refs are specifically told not to use the possibility of replay when making their judgements except potentially in the case of turnovers.

  • I was watching on TV and Bell clearly had a TD. I thought so in real time, and again on replay. I was so confident it was going to be called a TD by the booth that I got up to get another beer during the replay, only to return to my chair to find that we got shafted once again.

That made me angry, but what really took the cake was that Roushar called a slow-developing run up the middle on the next play when everybody in the fucking world knew it was coming. Sure, Pendleton whiffed on his block and actually tackled Bell, but that should be expected with the way things have gone this year. We should have faked to Bell and rolled Maxwell out with the option to pass (maybe even to Pendleton), but I suspect that Maxwell would have walked in as Northwestern sold out to stop Bell.

Unfortunately, that would have taken a small amount of creativity, which is non-existent this year, especially in the red zone.

Unfortunately, because it failed, it's a no win situation for the play callers. If they role out Maxwell and he gets stopped, throws an interception, throws an incomplete pass, etc, etc, then the coaches are idiots for not giving it to the stud running back.

In the same way as you described, the coaching staff are idiots because they ran it up the middle.

Any play that works would have been great. Any play that doesn't work leaves 90% of the Spartan fans asking why they didn't call something else.

  • While I thought it looked like a td, I didn't see any replays that confirmed that his knee wasn't on the ground.

What bothers me as much is the initial call. Officials seem to be calling things they don't see, like the Nebraska PI call. Even if Dennard did interfere, the ref was behind the play and couldn't have possibly seen it.

I don't think there is any doubt that the officials never saw Bell's knee hit the ground and they clearly saw him stretch the ball over the goal line. So why did they mark him down? Would they have made the same call without replay?

That is 6... And that QB sneak was embarrassing. You DO NOT run pro-style offense because you don't want to be able to execute short yardage. That's supposed to be why we're foregoing all the dink and dunk stuff is to be able to close out drives and games.

Marriage is like flying with kids, if the flight had 500 connections, never ended, Ted Striker were your pilot and you ate the fish.

    Pylon St8ofmind

  • Omg. How did they mess up that call so bad? When you watch the replay, at no point is his knee even close to touching. That's just insane. The calls this year are just flat out insane.

    Braxton Miller fumble.
    Denards first down.
    Random personal fouls.
    Dennards pass interference call.
    Leveons touchdown no call.

This is just getting out of hand. What in the hell is going on? We've lost so many games by 5 or less points and all of these calls have directly affected the outcomes. I mean, HOLY SHIT!

  • We have to stop this blaming the officials bit. We have been terrible all season. How about the following stats
    MSU Them
    FUMBLES-LOST.................. 18-8 10-5
    PENALTIES-Yards............... 63-618 50-434
    Average Per Game............ 56.2 39.5

If they counted dropped passes and missed blocks, we would for sure lead in those categories too

Sloppy undisciplined play and terrible coaching period.
