    Redshirt freshman Connor Cook will play quarterback for both teams Saturday.

  • Some time ago - years really, I recall getting into discussions on MSU's recruiting of QB's. When Boisture transferred, I argued getting more depth. That didn't happen.

    So now we have Maxwell, who seems a good QB, but he got hurt playing against Bama, and hurt while dropping back to pass in practice. How durable is this guy?

    I tell you what, I hope Cook is impressive. There's a strong chance he's the starting QB at some point this fall.

    That's true. Cousins was a tackling dummy out there. There was one blind-side hit that Cousins took I swore would kill a man.

    I can't recall how long Maxwell lasted, but it couldn't have been more than two series.

  • I hope we can get through this year. O'Connor is going to be a stud. It might be 2014 before he fully takes over but he will. Keep Maxwell healthy and he can be serviceable. Cook is an insurance policy.

  • Don't blame MD on this call. Getting Cook in there could benefit MSU in long run too.

    Get Maxwell healthy ASAP so he can work in this very important offseason for him.

    I wish he didn't have to play both sides but I agree. Tyler and Damion can't get here fast enough.

    Why? Gets him most time in huddle with as many players as possible. Get him time with everyone in a controlled game situation. If MSU is going to need him when it matters, I'd like to get him in as many game situations (controlled or not) as possible.

    I really hope we blow out CMU by halftime...even though I know thats not MD's M.O. I'd love to get Cook some live game action on the road as well.

    I assume you mean roughly a year ago with Boisture retired from football?

    Ideally, I wish O'Connor was on campus and could be the other QB. Cook does need reps for sure but heaven forbid if we have to go to him.

    No shit. Maxwell was an Elite 11 QB, and one of the best at the Elite 11 camp. He's perhaps our best QB prospect since Smoker (if not better), and we're all anticipating current high school jr's and sr's?

    So he gets hurt while we're being annihilated by a superhuman Alabama team (after one of the best MSU QBs in history goes out before him), then nothing happens for a year and a half, and then he tweaks his knee in a very minor, freak incident, and you're questioning his durability? Not to mention the rumblings about Maxwell being significantly more talented than Cousins since he arrived on campus...I mean I just don't see where you're coming from here. Maxwell is Dantonio's guy. There is no way in hell he'd switch.
