MSU Big Ten Championship Fun Facts

  • Ol' Drippy said...

I just did the math and if MSU can win the Big Ten Championship AGAIN next year we will pass OSU into first place for Titles/Seasons.

Actually, according to Wikipedia OSU only has 19 titles because they vacated their titles from 2000 and 2002. If true this would mean that MSU already has the most "Titles per Seasons played".

Huzzah! MSU wins Big Ten Titles at a higher rate than any other B1G program!!!

Yeah on their obnoxious court side video board that was listing their accomplishments yesterday, it said "19 Big Ten Championships"

Remind yourself. Nobody built like you, you design yourself.

Beilien is bringing michigan back to its rich tradition in basketball

    signed, MGOBlog

Are they speaking about their tradition of cheating during Ed Martin's association with the program/university going back to the 1980's until they were eventually caught? Or is it the period prior to this and going all the way back to the formation of their basketball program when they were mostly insignificant?

If it's Beilien's intention to bring the Wolverine basketball program back to its traditional, mediocre insignificance that was prior to Ed Martin, then I would say he has achieved his objective.

    Andy, update your post accordingly!

  • This thread is disgusting. Andy posts some awesome facts about the state of MSU basketball and it's relation to the big ten and most you fkrs turn it into another um thread. Seriously just go to the um board if you want to talk them so much. Most of us dont care to hear about your obsession.

And take off the Green. You can wear an M with a red circle and slash through it. You aren't Spartans you are anti-wolvies. There is a difference.

We are very proud to be MSU fans. Michigan is our main rival and we legitimately hate them. Deal with it.

    * MSU has as many Big Ten titles in the last 4 seasons as Wisconsin has in the last 65 seasons * MSU has as many Big Ten titles in the last 15 seasons as Michigan has in the last 64 seasons * MSU has as many Big Ten titles in the last 23 seasons as Michigan has in the last 83 seasons

    Teams with 3+ Big Ten titles in 4 seasons -------------------------------- MSU - 09,10,12 ILL - 01,02,04,05 MSU - 98,99,00,01 PUR - 94,95,96 IND - 80,81,83 IND - 73,74,75,76 MICH - 64,65,66 OSU - 60,61,62,63,64 ILL - 49,51,52 PUR - 34,35,36 MICH - 26,27,29 WIS - 21,23,24 WIS - 12,13,14

Wow, this really shows what programs were dominant for a large period of time. Purdue owned the '20's; IU owned the mid-70's thru early '90's and we have OWNED the mid-90's thru early teens. With any luck and TI's good health, we have a good chance of dominating most of the teens, making it a 20+ year domination just like IU.

  • LOL @ Purdue having 13 of it's 22 titles before MSU joined the Big Ten. sick

Not true. In basketball, Wisky has been twice the rival in the last 10 years then they have been. You are little brother obsessed with um... go to mgoboard (or whatever the fk it is) to discuss your obsession. & Please, remove your green.

This wasn't a thread that had anything to do with um when it was made. It was pointing out how well MSU basketball has done in the Big Ten. Learn to deal with the fact that not everything MSU does or accomplishes needs to be compared to um, rivalry or not.

With the success MSU has had over the past 5-10 years (in both sports), You would think the obsession would lessen with the kids of today. Back in the day when MSU was mediocre at most things, the obsession had an underdog component (striking at the big bad um)... now, I have no idea why they are so wrapped up in them.

I assume there are deep seated family issues and stuff like that driving most of these anti-um fans. (Dad is a um fan, I hate Dad cause he left Mom, therefore I am attending MSU...)

    Irritating to say the least.

  • Another note is that before 1922-23 there was uneven scheduling in conference games.

A team could win the conference with a 10-0 record but also have played two fewer games than the second place team who finished 10-2. A team could win the conference by two games but have also played two more games than the second place team. I think some teams like Iowa, Indiana, Northwestern and Ohio State would only play 6-8 games while other teams would play 12.

  • Probably a better way to measure this would be to add up the championship "share". That is, you get 1 for an outright title, 0.5 for a co-championship, 0.333 for a tri-championship, etc. I'll run those numbers tonight.

Thank you, sir. We here on the RCMB should show our gratitude by pitching in to buy you a fancy new calculator/abacus/whatever the hell it is you use to come up with these stats.

  • to AvgMSUJoe:

I hate UofM with a passion as a family tradition. My grandma, dad for 8 years, his 3 brothers, myself and 2 siblings have attended or currently attend MSU. So all those losses through the generations make you irritable towards scUM. Growing up we were still the underdogs until Dantonio arrived, and all of my friends were what I call Walmart Wolverines because they simply choose to root for the winning team having no real connection with the school. These people go out of their way to tell me how much we suck if we happen to lose a game to them still, and thus I still despise them. I have no friends to fight about the Wisonson games over so it is less important to me personally.

  • Not a champ stat, but more of a tournament stat... My favorite stat about Izzo's era is MSU's record in the 2nd game of a tournament weekend. 3 losses (I think) in these games.
    1. To no. 1 seed UNC in NC
    2. To no. 1 seed Texas in Texas
    3. To no. 1 seed UNC in Michigan (Final game)

If a team is going to knock on MSU, they better do it on Thursday or Friday!

I hate them too... all good Spartans do.

Bringing them up in every thread is tiring, irrelevant, and beyond hating your rival. It's obsession...

I'm confused about the "dad for 8 years" thing. Does this mean he went to MSU for 8 years or that he was your Dad for 8 years?
