MSU Football optional seat selection system is online

Right, hence my question. BTW, I believe you can only get Spartan Fund Points for donating towards athletics, not other university funds.

Lifetime giving to the University counts as well but only at 1/10 of the rate....so it is pretty useless when it comes to improving your seats or benefits of being a member.

What's the matter? Worried about rain getting on your precious head?

And I think it's row 50 and up.

LOL. I'm just trying to figure out if I can get up under the overhang and if not I will try for lowest row that I can afford.

    Not correct.

3 points for every consecutive years as a season ticket holder per sport. (I.e. if you've held football, and hockey tickets for the last 5 years you would have 30 points right there)

2 points per consecutive years giving to Spartan Fund

1 point per $100 lifetime gift to athletics

1 point per $1000 lifetime gift to anywhere else at University

1 point per $1000 planned irrevocable gifts lifetime to Athletics.

Lets say my family has a business, and has been buying season football, and basketball tickets for 30 years. My company has give 100 dollars in addition over those 30 years (doesn't even get them a parking pass!) plus we gave a one time gift of 10K to Athletics, a one time gift of 25 K to the college of business and a plan to develop a 25k athletic scholarship fund. That's 500 or so points attached to those tickets right there.

I don't give much, and only have 42 points based on consecutive years of Football tix and my optional date is the 27th.

BTW I figured out I would need to make a one time gift on 8.6 million dollars to become donor number 1 this season.

Ok thanks, like someone else said, university gifts only count as 1/10th of athletic gifts.

And if you're picking on the 27th, that still begs the question how the first year season ticket holder is picking on the 22nd. Must have given some mad cheddar or was a long time supporter of another sport I guess. If not, this system sucks for not assigning greater weight to consecutive season ticket purchases. And does anyone know if your points are "used up" so to speak if you participate in a seat reassignment for football? Or do those points carry over to basketball seat assignments as well, thereby allowing you to take full advantage of one year's worth of donations twice?

IMO, if you're participating in football seat selection, consecutive FOOTBALL season ticket purchases should be given greater weight, not equal weight, as season ticket purchases of other sports. If you want to get higher on the list and you're a first year season ticket holder, it should require donation in the form of money.

    Either he's:
    lying

He's had long time tickets transferred to his name

He's had tickets in other sports

He gave a lot of money to athletics last year

He commites to donate a lot of money last year across the next several years

He's given a lot to the University over the past

His businesses tickets are in his name for the first time and the business racked up points

    Combo of the above.

Probably a combo of the above. Like I said, I only have 42 points, mostly from 12 consecutive years as a football season ticket holder and my date is the 27th. The first 7 years of those 12 the account was in my wife's name because she had some extra time with football because she graduated a semester early. We changed it to my name when I became employed by MSU to take advantage of employee rates. I actually have another account I used as a student...but there are 0 points there.

I'm guessing this is his first year, but not te first year of the account. I know someone like that.

Unfortunatly, consecutive years of purchase was given no weight at all. All that matters is your donor level for the July 2010 to June 2011 donation year.

I don't understand why our Spartan Fund points weren't used for football seat selection. Really, I don't even understand why they make SF points seems so important. They've only used them for the basketball seat selection two years ago and to break ties in a given donation level. Yet they push these points like they're so important. Everything should be based on points (fb parking, away game tickets, bowl tickets, seating improvements, NCAA tournament tickets).

In the end it's fine if they don't want to use the points but why do they spend so much time calculating and talking about them?

  • I'm a first year season ticket holder, have given 150 to MSU, 50 to Athletics, and a SF member. By my calculations, that's 2.65 points. I have the 28th.

Wrong - you get 1 point per $100 donation to the Spartan Fund, and 1 point per $1,000 donated to the University.
link takes you to the Spartan Fund points explanation page.

And I must say that the seating website is way cool - and that I don't see any available seats that I want to move to this year.

Also I will speculate right now that we will see an entire reseating of the stadium in the next 5 years - right after the back-to-back National Championships, so enjoy your seats....while they are still yours wink_msu

I dont' think so. Maybe they'll split up days at the lowest levels, but they probably don't have that many points so it's moot.

They matter, but not for this. The priority has always been scholarship level and then points within that level. Basketball is a little more convoluted since they wanted to figure in longevity so they don't piss off all the blue hairs who have had season tickets since Gus Ganakas was coaching.

overhang coverage really starts around the mid 50's, but it depends what you want it for....shad is very different from staying dry....im in 61 and dont even realize its raining many times

Long time basketball season ticket holder and donor every year to the Spartan Fund

  • It says I have 3.63 points, but it doesn't say I'm a Spartan Fund member. Do you get credit for this year of Spartan Fund membership? I only ask, because I got credit for being a consecutive season ticket holder, even though this is my first.

Where does it say that. Can you log into the Spartan Fund account? If so, it will break down your points.

And no, all donations and activities after 7/1 don't count towards your appointment.

  • I don't think anything you are doing THIS year counts. Only up until the 2010-2011 fiscal year, which ended last summer. This year's donations and whatnot will count towards next year's seat selection process.

But the $50 donation I made two weeks ago (to the Spartan Fund) is counted.

I'm going to call the AD tomorrow to figure this out.

  • Has anyone noticed any seats that have been selected? I have about 4 different pairs of seats I've been watching and none have been taken yet. Hoping it stays that way. Just wondering if you've seen any seats that were there and now are gone.

I think the issue with the earlier times are all the big donors have gone, which more then likely already have their 50 yard line tickets and don't want to change. I suspect at some point the breaking point will hit where people will want to move if they can.

I too hope it holds off.....

Another question do ALL tunnels have stairs on both sides going up? I thought they did but its hard to tell on the 3d seating chart.....kinda looks like it doesnt.

    Yes you can.

Easiest way is to login into your ticket office account, click "my account" on the left sidebar

It will take you to an accoun info page toward the right hand side...there should be a "Spartan Fund Donations" Button

This will reroute you to your Spartan Fund "Go Green" account page.

I guess you can go right to the Spartan Fund Page and login, but for some reason it never accepts my info.

Click on Sparty with the Calculator for some fun!
