  • That is awesome about Valentine. He's the guy I'm most excited to see play. I'm hoping he gets serious PG minutes by the end of the season.

On a scale of 1-to- 10 how was Valentine's defense?

I love the confidence shown in Costello's quotes and the chemistry forming between he and Valentine.

    Could you imagine...come March!?!
    PG: Appling/Valentine
    SG: Harris
    SF: Dawson
    PF: Costello
    C: Nix/Payne
    D-specialist: Kearney
    Bench: Trice, Byrd, Gauna

I would give Valentine a 7 on defense, but these guys aren't exactly slapping the floor on that end.

And the chemistry with Costello and Valentine really was remarkable. Looked like they had been teammates for years.

  • Just a word of warning- It was this same time last year when there was a glowing review of Byrd's play

Byrd didn't play last summer, he was recovering from a broken foot

Byrd played zero basketball last summer. Try again.

I get your point and I'm not going to be disappointed if DV needs an entire season but I will admit, I am excited to have him at MSU. He's got a lot going for him already that others don't...

1.) He's not far from home
    2.) He's a proven winner
    3.) Coaches son
    4.) Parents attended MSU
5.) His dad played at MSU

are you thinking of Chris Allen? I remember Allen going off for like 30 or something in one of these games the summer he came in as a freshman. We all got super excited. To bad that never materialized.

The first time MSU basketball aired in France the French surrendered to Tom Izzo just to be safe.

My mistake, which post was it that touted the play of 19/20 year old that had yet to play one minute of major college basketball?

  • I highly recommend checking out the money ball games. Last summer I checked out a couple and saw all I needed to know Dawson was big time, Kearney could play a roll and Trice was going to struggle against more physical guards. The competition was better last year but the games are decent.

  • Great write up, Dan. I'm really excited about this freshman class. I think ALL of then have a chance to be special.

Thanks, duffy. I think State fans have good reason to be excited about this class. Plenty of versatility and loads of talent. Costello was really impressive again today, guarded Nix in the post and didn't look out of place doing so at all. And Valentine threw down an unbelievable dunk in traffic, took off a just a step inside the free throw line. Walk-on Keenan Wetzel also told me after the games today that they're a ton of fun to be around as teammates.

Great read. I wonder if they added anyone from Chicago to this group next year if they'd be any good.
