MSU Hopes To Play Game at Jenison

Now Hollis is blatantly ripping ideas off from tRCMB.

Hollis, if you are reading and we know you are, let's do a game in the U.P. next.

Yep, Jenison was a thorn in Jud's side when it came to recruiting and no doubt it does not compare with the Bres. But this is about connecting with history and Hollis is ALWAYS thinking outside the box. I love the Breslin Center but no place rocked like Jenison. 10,004 was much louder that 14,500, even when the Izzone was good.

I agree. Most people cannot imagine how deafening Jension can be.

The "fat boy" game still ranks as my greatest fan experience - and I have been present at many iconic sporting events. It was at that game I learned what the phrase "so loud you could not hear yourself think" truly meant.

I've been throwing this idea around for a while. Have an all-student crowd at Jenison. That place would be effin rocking.

I e-mailed that idea to Hollis 8 years ago. Got a response too.

Exactly the game I was thinking about. Unreal how loud the old barn was that night. This, and it was easy to sneak into Jenison without a ticket. I did it all the time as a student.

I'm trying.. it would just be so cool.. not to mention what it would do for recruiting..

You are too young to remember Jenison, Bob and probably were'nt alive when we landed on the moon.

    I saved the response:

A great idea ... We will look into a concept like this. Obviously,
there would be some revenue issues that we would have to address ... But
the concept could be very fun! Thanks a ton!

You should remind him, and he should hook you up with some good seats for the Jenison game. thumbsup

You realize they're not tearing down Breslin to make this happen, right? It's one game. We still have Breslin and playing one game somewhere else doesn't make anyone ungrateful.

Of course I get the point. Just charge me half price for my ticket, thanks. That place sucked.

Are you joking? It would be filled with teletubbies and everyone texting/facebooking/tweeting about how cool it is to be in jenison, while not even paying attention to the game.

You could always just skip this one and watch on TV instead.

Charge half off for the folks in the seats at the ends of the court. Charge double for the folks seated baseline to baseline, because those seats were freaking AWESOME!!!!

I started out there watching top row, center court with my aunt and uncle and Dee Strong and her husband. AWESOME VIEW FROM THE TOP FREAKING ROW!

Later on, when I was in HS, I had season tickets, first row of the balcony, almost center court. INCREDIBLE!! I would love to watch another game in there.

Maybe even an exhibition against the Lansing Everett 1977 team. [lol-ing] I wouldnt care who it is against.

edit: I think it might have been 2nd row balcony.

OK, you win. Question was "wouldnt it be cool?" I say no. You say yes. Have fun.

  • Didnt we do away with the Spartan Classic? That used to be a two game event.
Sell tickets to Whoever (Cincy- they were 1963 runner ups) v. MSU and put a warm up game for Loyola v. Miss. St.
Do it on coaches classic week or something.
Sell tickets for $100 GA. Dedicate a plaque invite the coaches/players back.

Maybe even have the first 2 teams (Loyola/ Miss St) play the first game at Jenison - and then have the early fans walk over to the bres for the second game.

WE {Izzo} ARE {CoachD} ONE {spartan} My spartan is: #23 Draymond Green.

Will they get rid of the 3 point line?

I agree with the noise factor...having had season tix at both venues, the noise level in Jenison was louder than anything ever produced at the Bres. Favorite moment was when Magic limped back out of the locker room to lead the team to a victory which was huge since only the conference champion back then made into the big dance....anyone else remember that moment? I was at mid court in the "upper deck".

Right up there is the Scott Skiles/Antoine Joubert game....the "Show me what you got, fat boy" game...where Skiles lit up the Judge and the scUMmers and Antoine threw his wrist bands at the fans in disgust as he was properly serenaded as he left the game.

Either the DetNews or Freep had a cartoon after the Skiles/Joubert game....with Joubert having a basketball stuffed in his mouth and the caption, "Show me what you got fat boy" I lost me copy a long time ago...and would love it if someone could post it....will go up with my ticket stub with 114 to 63 written on it!

Too small, too antiquated. It would have to be a very minor game. The capacity factor alone is an issue. You can't compare it to the aircraft carrier game, not even close.

Why not? There was even less seating for the carrier game.
