i really really wish jaylon smith, tim kimbrough, and elijah daniel would come. would be amazing to land those 3 as well. i actually believe smith will be an AA wherever he goes, and will likely be a future 1st rd pick... that guy is a going to be a beast

IIRC, Kimbrough's a MIKE and State just got Reschke. What position does Elijah Daniel play? It's hard to get a handle on all the '13 kids just 3 weeks after the '12 cycle concluded lol.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

daniel is a DE, and were going to need some DE as gholston MIGHT be gone after this year and hoover graduates..lyles is said to be playing OLB...and reschke is listed as a SAM or WILL in his profiles on scout and rivals, though 247 has him at MIKE...a lot of our Defensive players are going to be Jrs this year, and may be going to draft...Lol and let me get excited about recruiting...its the offseason, not much to hang the hat on except this and CBB

Reschke was told by the coaches that he's going to be the next in line at MIKE after Bullough graduates. That's a paraphrase from the 247 article on his commitment, but the key words were "middle linebacker" and "Starting after Bullough".

I think DE is a pretty big priority for this next cycle. I like Drone (RS JR in '12) and Freeman (SR with a chance at getting an extra year), but the next wave is Rush/Calhoun/Heath. Need 2-3 more guys to add to that group. LT may end up there afterall . . . . who knows. It's a good problem to have there.

Hoover is a guy I'm going to keep a close eye on. He should be close to 300 pounds this year and at 6'7 that's one big dude. What State does with him . . . . well, we'll see. Ideally he becomes a poor man's JJ Watt/Cameron Heywood.

at 6'7, 300+, any chance he slides inside? he already has a good finesse move, if he masters bullrushing we may have found our next worthy...

Isn't that cheating? I think the NCAA need to update their rule books with social media communication.

It's just one high school kid talking to another. You're delusional if you don't think our guys aren't also doing that.

Did you think Shane Morris was a coach or something? Or maybe my sarcasm detector is off? It's just a high school kid talking to other high school kids, pretty sure that isn't against any rules.

That's the JJ Watt/Cam Heywood comparison. Also, UM did this with Ryan Van Bergan (6'6 280) this past season. It took him 6-7 games to get used to it, but over the last 6 games he totaled 26 tackles, 9.5 TFL, 4.5 sacks and 2 PBU. Not bad for a guy playing DT for the first time.

Not only are they doing it, but Demetrious Cox is actively trying to get Robert Foster to be a Spartan via Twitter as of a few hours ago lol

  • Why do I even read recruiting threads? Shit is seriously testing my sobriety. After last weekend I'm going to be all chicken little if we don't get four verbals.

I need to avoid the ledge at all costs or just run the fuck off of it.

Funny how now a days players are big recruiters for other players. The crazy thing is that they are going after players that can take their job.

Not sure I remember that part. I do remember them calling him the middle linebacker of the future, but I think LT will probably be in there for a couple of seasons as well.

Realistically I think it's Bullough, LT, Reschke.

LT has been pretty against moving positions. He wants to stay at LB, and by all accounts he has the coverage skills to do so.

Maybe LT steps in for Norman after this season and gives us a 265lb OLB? Seems insane to me. I don't see how Reschke plays the middle before LT.

I think it's a good problem to have . . . but Tai Jones needs a spot too, as well as Ed Davis.

I do love all the 6'2 to 6'4 LBs the staff has brought in. Not so much because they're ideal LB size, but because they can play a variety of positions.

why are people concerned about his weight...brian urlacher is 6'4, and 260 Lbs, and lance briggs is 6'1, 250 lbs...and both of them will likely be in HOF...if he loses maybe 5-10 Lbs he could be a very good LB...as the 260 LBs isnt fat, just pure muscle

It's a nice position to be in. Dantonio is not the type to promise playing time, so Reschke might be a little overly enthused about his chances.

More likely, Dantonio is going to give him the opportunity to compete for playing time right away (as he does all freshmen). LT is the MIKE of the future unless he decides that his future is on the defensive line.

Cause they tend to add weight in the NFL, not drop it. Don't forget that Urlacher was a defensive back in college, and even did kick returns and played WR. Not the greatest comparison.

When a LB is drafted, NFL teams want the MLB to be in the 250 area..... Outside should be about the same size, probably a little smaller.

    Fixed it for ya.

I haven't seen LT since the season, so I don't know where he's put the weight on at. He's just a big dude overall.

I wouldn't be shocked to see MSU run many different OLBs out there on 3rd and long and have multiple people put their hands in the dirt. State has a bevy of young front 7 players, so you may see more of a rotation next season. I prefer the back-7 not to rotate much, but there may be specific packages for the young LBs.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

ok vontaze burcfit, an OLB from ASU, wildly considered to be the 2nd best OLB in this years class is 6-3, 260 Lbs...and he would likely go in the 1st round if he wasnt on roid rage lol...donta hightower is 6-4, 260..courtney upshaw is 6-2, 265...shayne skov is 6-3, 245...and these are all AA LBs who are considered CFBs elite. also its not like LT is a freshmen who came ina t 260...he came in at 6'4, 235...which is normal for a guy that big. he has had 2 years to put on the weight which is normal in college for LBs...as long as he isnt fat, still has sideline to sideline speed, and excellent zone coverage skill he will be a fine MLB...heck even bullough is 6-3, 250

Heights/weights don't matter as much as whether or not the kid can play (I realize that's convoluted, stay with me). There are "ideal" NFL measurables; 6'0- 6'5 for LBS, and between 225 and 265 pounds. There are guys that play above and below those heights/weights; London Fletcher's a hell of a player and is 5'10 245!

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.
