If they don't sell out the allotment, they will open them up to public sales, of course.

They open up to alumni tomorrow. If any left.

why didn't you just lie and tell her that you do donate? i mean, is she actually going to go through and check each person who gets a ticket?

Then the next question is "what is your account number".

Your incentive is the joy and satisfaction of watching MSU Athletics perform on a high level knowing that without such contributions, MSU would not have the staff, facilities, or talented players needed to maintain its winning tradition. You certainly can't think that donations are only made by people who buy tickets or live in the State of Michigan, do you?

Yeah, she will. Schools track everything. When loading into the system that gHost is purchasing tickets and to see what donar level he is currently at it will tell her that he does not qualify. Seats are also organized by donar levels to make sure that people who donate the 6 figures are placed in the nose bleeds.

That's weird! I already took all the necessary Calculus related courses relevant to my major in high school.

Another weird coincidence: I paid attention in my history classes all the way through high school (fortunate to have been in a nice public one) and received college credits. Still had to take more. WEIRD!

I think I read that book...."Everything I'll Ever Need to Know I Learned in 9-12 Grades".

After 13 years of edumacation, who could teach me anything more? Learn something from PhDs? Leaders in their fields? Yeah, right....I'm good....

I called this morning to ask about buying tickets to the Phoenix games. Yes, there's tickets available. SO I asked if I could buy some tickets and she asked me if I was a donor and I said no, but I'd be willing to donate. No tickets for me. I had to have donated a long time ago in order to be able to buy tickets now. But it begs the question: What incentive would I have to donate if I live 3,000 miles away from MSU and can only make it to maybe one game per year? Why wouldn't MSU simply allow me to donate and buy tickets since I actually live in Phoenix? Fucking stupid... and while you're at it MSU Ticket office, I'm still waiting for my fucking Citrus Bowl tickets from 2000 that I paid for and that you never sent me. fingergun

I support you 100%. People who are down voting this have never been behind the scenes... I promise you it's even more of a disaster than you think. The MSU Ticket Office is absolutely pathetic. Wendy Brown is the worst ticket manager in the entire NCAA.

Pfft. You really think you can't learn these things outside the classroom? If you think a general fact about history or humanities is more special when you pay a PhD to say it to you versus investigating it yourself, I've got a bridge to sell you.

The best educators FACILITATE learning and critical thinking instead of having you recite facts. I found the former to be a quality of perhaps 5% of the educators in my time at MSU. Many of those classes were filled with AWFUL educators who were either foreign speaking or in-over-their-head TA's. Maybe my experience at MSU was unique, but that's where I'm coming from and the point to which I'm speaking.

I don't think people are downvoting the questioning of the ticket office. They're downvoting (1) gHost; (2) the idea that gHost would only donate to get tickets; and (3) gHost.

roflmao At the implication that paying attention in high school history class means any subsequent knowledge about any of the humanities is unnecessary.

Look bro, if you think that the only purpose of an education is to teach you a narrow set of skills to work one specific type of job for the rest of your life, you should have gone to a trade school instead of a university with a liberal arts philosophy. Pretty much every university in the world requires you to take classes outside of your major to receive an at least somewhat well-rounded education. If you didn't want that, you shouldn't have come to MSU. It's not a money grab, it's their philosophy as an academic institution.

    No doubt, me too.

I mean, I had to take a math class???? Come on, that is why I have a computer, right? I use words, not numbers. Why should I have to learn about anything other than what I think is important? And what is this "history" garbage....what does that have to do with me and what I want to do?

Just another example of The Man keeping us down.

Your computer does your math for you? Then you must have a sense about what math you need. I'm sure the course went beyond the basics. Heaven forbid that a math course might improve your thinking ability to problem solve. Math is more than just computation.

Go back and re-read (or in your case read) what I said, BRO. I said students shouldn't be charged the same rate for classes outside of their concentration.

Also, BRO, I think you overestimate the willingness of the general student body when it comes to retaining information learned in those humanities courses. Most students don't give a sh*t and just want the 4.0, critical thinking be damned.

Serious question: How many of you remember most of your complementary education (that which was outside your major?)

What's more, BRO, the information gained from those courses outside of my major is MINUTE compared to the continuing education one can obtain beyond graduation.

If you think you're a well-rounded scholar because you took some IAH course about art history from some random point in history while exploring its influence from some war at the same time, you missed the point.

    BRO.

Sure there is, but not at the same rate as the classes I wanted to receive my major within.

To me, that's essentially a money grab and thus, a donation to the university.

There's a reason why student loans are the next economic bubble; it's because students are forced to pay for all classes necessary to their major at ridiculous rates when the return on their investment is abysmal. Having to pay the same rate for classes nonessential to one's major compounds the issue.

Most universities are more business than institutions dedicated to higher learning and fulfillment of educational pursuits.

you may be correct, but accreditation standards are what force much of this.

Here's the thing: NO ONE HAS EVER ASKED ME TO DONATE. What is it, $100 or something? The donation isn't an issue, the issue is that I'm willing to donate now and MSU is unwilling to accept my money! I have another friend that donated at some earlier point and he's ineligible for these tickets as well, at least right now, for an event that's 3,000 miles away from MSU. I understand the donation issue but you would figure that MSU would welcome people willing to donate now in order to purchase tickets for an event. It's a great opportunity for MSU to get people to donate. MSU should be sending emails to alums in SW USA that haven't donated soliticiting donations and selling tickets thereby increasing the number of people donating and putting more Spartans in the stands.

And yeah, I'm still pissed that the ticket office never sent my Citrus Bowl tickets that I paid for and never refunded my money because they said they were sent. dramaqueen

Why? Do those professors not teach the same material? Is the education any different? I don't understand this philosophy. I understand that YOU don't want to pay for things YOU don't find important, but that's life and part of the educational philosophy of the school YOU chose to attend.

Here's the thing. Donars who did donate in the last fiscal year have first dibs. They have until 5pm today to make that decision. If there are tickets left over, you will be able to purchase these.

The school only has information that you have given it. If you have not updated any of your contact information, they cannot call you and ask for your donation. On the other hand, they shouldn't have to ask you to donate. You are most likely, at least try to represent yourself on the board, in a position where you should be looking for tax deductible places to donate money. MSU allows you to do so and earn the ability to have tickets to major athletic events. MSU is more than willing to accept new donations, but you shouldn't get ahead of the people that have been donating over a period of time or donated before people like you who only want to donate to attend this one event. If you want to start donating give them a call, I am sure Dorn, who in charge of premium seating donations would love to talk to you.

I'm unwilling to accept the status quo.

If the university needs to change the way it operates for the better, it should do it. The truth is, professors DON'T teach the same material and YES, the education IS different because some can't speak english, may have horrible teaching skills, or some are simply terrible at testing your knowledge of the material.

Why do you think we have prof rankings? Why do you think students go out of their way to be in a section with a certain teacher?

If your implication that the education is uniform were true, none of the aforementioned would be necessary.
