MSU-UConn to open Bball season in Germany

    lol

Not sure if serious, but everyone was scooped by ESPN because ESPN was part of this whole deal.

The thing is, they didn't even report on any rumors of it or possibilities. It totally surprised everyone. It just shows more evidence that the Detroit media hasn't built up a strong relationship with MSU insiders.

Since they're already in bed with the school down the road, I'm sure they don't feel the need to be either.

Neither did the Lansing media. MSU obviously wanted to keep this really quiet until it was announced.

Obviously. But that again speaks of trust. What should happen if someone was connected is that they would have had the word already from an Izzo or Hollis but respected the sensitivity of the situation enough to not report it. Then they could have used those quotes and had it ready to go as soon as it started to break.

The Detroit media all had to reference the ESPN.com story first because that's all they had at first. And then after that they went digging. It's pretty sad.

  • I'm probably wrong about this, but isn't Ramstein AB known for its hospital, or at least the first stop on a soldier's road to recovery?

I ask because I would love it if our sick, injured and recovering men and women will be included/honored in this event.

As a veteran I love the way Hollis/Izzo are repping our military folks.Of course, the pub doesn't hurt either.biggrin

I was born about 15 minutes away from Ramstein and my mom is from a village about 5 clicks away.

I have spent a decent amount of time on the base with the USAF.

The base is cool for civilians who aren't exposed to the military a lot and there is a lot to do in the area(castles, the Winestrassse, riverboat tours, the cathedral at Reims, etc.)

A ton of expats and English -speaking Germans in the area as well.

I encourage any of you who have the means,or are in that part of Europe at that time,to check it out!

Hello. Long time reader, first time poster. Go Green.

Any early thoughts or tips on the general public getting tix to this game? Maybe similar policies to last year's carrier game i.e. limited to military? I live on the Continent and this would be a relative "home" game for me.

    Thx in advance.

You are basically correct. Landsthul is where the hospital is located...it is the largest US military hospital oustide of the US. Ramstein is basically a stop over for everything headed to other sites of operation. It is mostly HQ type, air mobility, and support staff folks stationed there. Many different countries as well with a big NATO contingent.

Hopefully the guys get to enjoy some time in K-Town.

As for your inquiry, I don't know. lol It's probably too soon for details to emerge, as the game was just announced.

I need to get tickets to this game too. I am active duty Air Force stationed in Italy and I can't pass up a chance to take my boy to his first MSU game. If anyone finds out details for purchasing tickets for this game please post or PM me. Thanks.

Being a vet myself and a current student at State, I take an extra amount of pride in the fact that my school is pioneering these events for current military members. I don't think it can be said enough how much it means for our service members when these type of events take place. Way to go Mr. Hollis and Coach Izzo. So proud to be a spartan2 Go Green!

Exactly. Can use this game as a feeler to determine Euro interest in a game and to work on some of the specifics for travel/jet lag

Will we actually be able to win this game? Is UConn gonna be good next year?

I think that they are on academic probation (they are appealing), They always have talent.
