MSU basketball to play game at Jenison

  • Not really... This game would have a sitting president in attendance. The crowd will be a who's who of cultural society.

I see it as an issue of moving ahead and looking forward. There is a reason Breslin got built which was to replace Jenison. It is a better building and atmosphere by far. That is just a fact. I also have no desire to see the Lions play in the Silverdome, the Tigers to play in old Tiger stadium (if it existed), the Pistons to play in Cobo and the Wings to play in whatever structure existed before the Joe.

To actually watch a game, Tiger Stadium was far superior to Comerica, and Olympia was a better place to watch a game than the Joe.

There are many, many features of the new facilities that make the whole experience better, but as far as actual "close to the action" seats, Tiger Stadium was 10 times the facility Comerica is.

You call yourself a hockey fan and don't know where the Wings played before the Joe? It's one game to remember an historic moment in NCAA basketball history. I for one are glad you will be not in attendance.

    Better building? Absolutely.

Atmosphere? You obviously never saw a game at Jennison. That place rocked! Small arena with lot's of noise. I don't think I have been a louder venue with the crowd right on top of the action. Breslin was built to accommodate more fans and help recruiting. Jud said that it was tough to get recruits on campus during the season back then, and they couldn't picture what a great home court advantage it was.

BTW, the structure was The Olympia.

3rd Generation Spartan. Nothing better than a Saturday afternoon at Spartan Stadium Unless it's watching the hoops team in the Final Four

  • I want to go. But to be a really nostalgic experience It will have to be 10 degrees and I will walk to the game from Snyder Hall.

  • It would be great to have a game there. I played in the Spartan Brass 60-64 and saw many exciting games in that old place. Sort of like an old Madison Square Garden atmosphere, minus cigars. Specials were visits by Ohio State (Jerry Lucas, etc) Indiana with Jimmy Rayl, I think and many others we battled valiantly against. Of course, we in the SMB practiced on the dirt floor on Wednesday nights, I think. (long time ago). The romantic view is the one most obscured by facts. LOL.

  • Current Izzone bashing aside, imagine how loud that place will get with the Izzone cheering. I wonder if they'll even get a ticket to this, though.

Why would the Izzone be loud? It won't be a big game.

I meant more because of the acoustics in Jenison...from what I've heard/read, that place was rocking. Those old field houses are like that.

It could get loud. There were also some pretty lean years in Jenison. You could hear Jud headslap

  • Bump - has there been any word regarding tickets for this game? Speaking to you, big money donors...

    Coach_McGuirk

  • no idea...but the mediocre tickets SpartanDawg and I got to the Champions Classic in Atlanta were kinda expensive if you don't plan on staying through the second game so I can imagine they are going to be pricey.

I say students only. That would be sick.

This country was built by people who worked hard then went home and had just a few too many every night. Then went back to work.

They already said tickets are $30 and available based on donor level.

    http://www.msuspartans.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/080712aaa.html

"Tickets for the Dec. 15 contest are $30 and will not be included with the men's basketball season-ticket package. They will be sold based on donor priority (limit 4 or 2, depending on donor level), with staggered on-sale dates, to be announced at a later date."

Although it is not mentioned in the link above, capacity will be limited to less than 6000.

    http://michiganstate.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1393622

Due to the renovated configuration of Jenison Field House for volleyball and wrestling, the venue will be able to seat fewer than 6,000 for the MSU-Tuskegee game. Jenison Field House sat a capacity of 10,004 when it was the home to Michigan State basketball from 1940 to 1989.

  • How about hockey at Dem Hall!!!!!!!
I can't believe it is still operational, but it was a great venue to play in "back in the day"
Pretty rough the last time I stopped over last year.
