MSU football season ticket record "obliterated"

I hope they never increase seating capacity. 75k seems to be the right number for this market....

Agreed, make improvements to the facilities, but increase the quality and knowledge of the fanbase rather than the quantity.

I think it's about 5,000 to 7,000 too low for the marquee games.

I'm ok with 75,000...but, I'm a semi long season ticket holder.

    Replace the concrete with stone.

hoke- to alter or manipulate so as to give a deceptively or superficially improved quality or value.

If we keep winning, 75k is not going to be enough in a few years.

The problem is in a typical year there are only 1-2 marquee games. The other 5-6 games those seats would be empty. I agree that 75k is about right. Any seats added would mean parking / traffic being worse, etc. I'd rather see them continue to improve the stadium. There will be years where the home schedule will stink, and you want people to want to come back anyway.

Best whiteout I've ever seen at Spartan Stadium. By far. Notre Dame 2008 that must be.

Again, if we keep winning 10 games a year, those other 5-6 games will NOT be empty.

That's SOS thinking. Stop thinking like it's 20 years ago!

The stadium is undersized and needs to be expanded to keep up with the 'big' boys if we're becoming one of them. Wusconsin expanded after years of good teams and they still sell out. MSU needs to be ready to do the same.

  • So where do we expand? Make the one upper deck taller? Curve the upper decks around a bit to lengthen them? lol

Really the only thing you could do is expand the upperdeck in the South to meet the new scoreboard and put a deck between the two scoreboards in the north.

In between the scoreboards would probably be kind of bizarre with how I'm imagining it in my head.

Keep in mind we'd have a couple thousand higher capacity if we added a box to the other side of the stadium too.

  • "So where do we expand?" asked Spartan-Pride without thinking. "Make the one upper deck taller? Curve the upper decks around a bit to lengthen them?" Then Spartan-Let out a laugh, as if to crown his stupidity.

"No," explained a man of ordinary intelligence. "You simply dig deeper. It's been done many times before."

If you keep improving the facility and only selling to season ticket holders, you're going to end up with a 75,000 capacity library full of green seaters. Just saying.

I think that they'd prefer to be able to have 75,000 tickets sold every year. Makes it a lot easier to budget and plan when there's an actual demand instead of hoping that people buy single tickets.

dude, i understand you are pissed you do not have season tickets and are bashing everything about them because of that, but the admin wants guaranteed sold seats for every game. that is why they used to bundle the um game with an indiana or northwestern, because they couldnt sell those out. this was the perfect year to set up the donation system, great foresight to get that done before this years schedule to maximize profit. dont be pissed because the admin wants to lock in money for those seats.

anyone saying we need to expand is an idiot, i dont know what the attendance stats were last year but i know we did not sell out every game the year before last. maybe we should have a string of a few years of sell-outs every game before we talk about expanding.

I think we gotta leave the north end alone. Keep the view of North Campus. It's pretty cool when people are watching on TV and the camera shows a shot of Beaumont surrounded by trees from inside the stadium.

How does one go about improving the quality and knowledge of the fanbase? Would you have them attend classes on how to tailgate, talk football, in-game etiquette? Teach them to arrive early and stay late. Make sure they pass those qualities on to their children? Would you have Sparty only allow "quality" individuals into the game to keep the others out? What the fuck does your post exactly mean? Enlighten us at to how you would increase the quality and knowledge of the fan base.

All I'm saying is, any talk of "quality over quantity" is bullshit. The season ticket holders aren't getting any younger, and not everyone will stand up and scream when they're Tanfan's age.

As a guy who knows a lot about this, what are your thoughts on capacity now that MSU football has improved? Am I realistic thinking that 80,000+ seats could be something MSU is looking at? Or do you think we should stay in the mid-70k range?

Not what I'm saying. What I'm saying is, at some point you're either going to have to go with a ticket lottery (which I don't think anyone would be happy with) or expand the stadium. This is separate from my issue with single-game tickets.

That's what you're saying as a fan. You also said that you were only going to go to 2 or 3 games this year anyway. They'd much rather sell a season ticket to an octagenarian than you. Your yelling doesn't bring them more money.

Student tickets are on our IDs. Someone swipes them as we go in.
