Long term there are benefits. Without individual single game ticket sales you are putting your future at risk. How can you gain new, young fans that will never be able to go to a game because there is no availability?

On a short term scale if the same fan goes to all 7 home games for example, he will only buy 1 hat and 1 shirt, but if 7 different fans attend those games, they will buy 7 hats and 7 shirts.

Those new, young fans can go to any game they want. Instead of spending $300-400 per for a season ticket, they can pay $100-200 per for a big game ticket or get a ticket for EMU for $10.

I really don't think they are thinking about merchandise when selling season tickets. They'd much rather sell out EMU, NW, and Iowa than sell a couple thousand more shirts and hats.

  • Anyone know what percentage of overall capacity is season ticket holders for OSU, ND, um, UW, etc? Is it common knowledge to make all seats -students -visitors season ticket holder available?

  • If people are expecting fans to be cracked out of their minds for a who-cares MAC game or a B1G bottom feeder in freezing November, that's unrealistic. If MSU football on the other hand becomes a hot ticket, filing the stadium each game with enthusiastic fans will make a big difference.

The "worst fans" are the ones who go out of a sense of fan obligation since they bought the tickets. You can't even really call them bad fans because they still pay for tickets and go to games even during the worst years. They support the program while everyone else just sits at home and bitches.

Bottom line, put on a good show and fans will show up to make noise. I wouldn't worry about it.

Best whiteout I've ever seen at Spartan Stadium. By far. Notre Dame 2008 that must be.

    Absolutely is.

Apparently I didn't make myself clear. Once again, this is a completely separate argument from the issues I have with a lack of single-game tickets. I'm not saying that single-game ticketholders are more vocal than season ticketholders 100% of the time. What I'm saying is, if you don't expand and just keep making improvements, demand is going to drive up the price and the majority of those with season tickets will be stuffy old rich folks who golf clap every first down. I'm arguing that you won't just be getting "better quality fans" to fill those 75,000 seats; expansion is going to be necessary at some point, and if the current success continues that might be sooner than many of you think.

I'm not following your logic here. Expensive and/or difficult to get tickets will result in old people who are quiet attending games?

The Bears, Broncos, Packers, Patriots, Giants, Steelers, Eagles, etc all have decades long wait lists to buy season tickets and sell out every single game. Prices for games in those stadiums can be extremely expensive, as a result.

Same with pro teams in many other venues. The Cubs have a decades long wait list for season tickets. Their fanbase is not old and golf clapping.

As a result yes, but I should not have to. MSU should be saving some individual tickets for fans. Don't get me wrong...by not selling individual tickets, this will absolutely help me.

Let's not make the mistake of comparing the radical SEC fan base to the Big 10 fan base.

Hell, even ALABAMA fans complain about the grey hairs in their stadium.

  • Wow, the 'theoretical' idiots are out in force in this thread.

Not expanding seating because, well, we've always been bad, old people getting ALL the tickets, single game tickets more important....

Where do you idiots come up with these delusional ideas?

I think we gotta leave the north end alone. Keep the view of North Campus. It's pretty cool when people are watching on TV and the camera shows a shot of Beaumont surrounded by trees from inside the stadium.

People like you would buy up those individual tickets before most fans have a chance.

This is just an ignorant statement for so many ways. MSU sells tickets to donors first at every level and if there are any left then to the general public which for the big games leaves very little if any.

Even if there were individual games available, how would we buy them before everyone else? They go on sale at the same time.

You should not open your mouth if you do not know what you are talking about.

lol I forgot you were such a great humanitarian only concerned with getting young fans in the seats and MSU selling more hats!

Give me a break man. It would be incredibly stupid for MSU not to guarantee as many sales as possible thru season ticket sales.

Most fans aren't waiting by their computer refreshing every 5 seconds to get the premium single game tickets.

And he is? He has to tie up a ton of money (Spartan Fund donation, seat fees, the actual cost of the ticket) to purchase the seats he has.

Yes I would imagine if premium games were available for single ticket sales, he would be all over it, getting as many as possible. He would be dumb not to.

So you think buying the worst seats in the building for these games this year for $80 plus service charges plus my overhead is a great idea?

All those years of season tickets during the mediocre years should finally be paying off!

I see both sides to the argument regarding selling single game tickets but hell lets be honest its a great problem for MSU to have.

  • Just bought my season tickets today (at the young alumni discount). It's my first year as a non-student season ticket holder. Does MSU have an amount of away game tickets they sell to alumni/season ticket holders like they do for students, or not?

Yes, they have an allottment for every away game. I believe they also have an air/hotel package too, when appropriate.
