MSU has best odds to win combined titles

  • Am at Luxor looking at futures and we are 3x more likely than the next best team to win them both. 4 to 1 in bb and 35 to 1 in fb fir a total of 140 to 2 Mizzou is second with 6 to 1 and 75 to 1 for a total of 450 to 1 Scum is at 35 to 1 and 25 to 1 for a total of 875 to 1.

    Damn I forgot about that. I was thinking a team who is returning 17 starters and a lot of experience on a great defense, as well as their top rushers and a RS Jr Elite 11 QB, who can actually throw the ball would make more sense then a team who lost their best defenders and O-Linemen and a QB who plays 500. lol. Of course it is Vegas they are probably raking in UM fans cash.

    Crap I forgot again. I forgot that we lost the last 4 years because they won the Star battle. Who cares what happens on the field. It is all about the star ranking.

    I mean, to be perfectly fair, while recruiting rankings mean absolutely nothing head to head, if you look at the last decade, I think one can reasonably assert there's a minimum recruiting threshold to compete for NCs. At least until there's a playoff.

    Yeah I can agree, however I think a lot of the Star Rankings are based on who offers (obviously). That is why you see the Notre Dames of the world getting top 10 classes but not showing it on the field. Nick Saban, Les Miles, Pete Carroll (when he was at USC) had staffs that could find talent. So when the offer sheet went out Rivals Scout etc... give them the high rankings. And the great coaches have staffs that still need to coach these kids to the college level. That is why Coach D and some of the Non-AQs play as well as they do.

    I think this is true in a couple ways. One (as I think you're saying), there's a minimum general level of talent necessary to be able to beat the teams necessary to compete for a MNC.

    But beyond that, in order to realistically compete for a MNC, which heavily influenced by subjective polling, it's extremely important to be ranked high (say in the top 10, at least) in the pre-season polls. If not, you're going to be fighting uphill all year, waiting for those above you to lose so you can jump them.

    Who is ranked highly in the pre-season polls? Teams that have lots of Rivals/Scout stars on their rosters (obviously not the only factor, but a pretty big deciding factor in which teams are considered the contenders).

    Of course, it's a nice little incestuous system. Rivals and Scouts tend to give higher star rankings to players that are being recruited by the traditional powers. This then allows those teams to rank highly in the pre-season polls, which then makes it easier for them to compete for MNCs. Which of course makes it easier for them to continue recruiting top talent and getting top star ratings for that talent from the recruiting services.
