MSU on SNL

  • The main reason it's bad is because they punted for 4 years on Obama. He's had more to make fun of than anyone, but they refuse to do it. When you pass on great comedy because it doesn't fit your political ideology, you know it's the end of the show. I hope they cancel it.

You obviously do not watch the show. They have made fun of Obama a number of times and they don't treat Biden too well. Plus they still take a number of digs at Bill Clinton. I would elaborate but I don't want to turn this into a political argument.

SNL is either really good or really bad, has almost always been that way. It kinda depends on the host, if they are good then the show will be good. It is funny how everyone says it sucks now, I've been watching regularly since 1990 and people told me it sucked back then. I am sure in five to ten years there will be people who say "remember when bill hader/jason sidekus/kristen wigg/andy sandberg was on SNL, those were the days"

This, people will always say that the "good ole days" were better than what we have now.

just wondering why they picked MSU campus tv...

    The skit was pretty dumb.

MSU's Telecom program places lots of producers in the TV industry, including on SNL. It's not the first time they've set skits at MSU.

I agree the skit was Not Funny, but it makes a little more sense if you've ever watched a Japanese variety show, which are as silly as the SNL spoof.

    Wigrich

  • It's pretty obvious they are making fun of people who are obsessed with Japanese pop culture but have no knowledge of actual Japanese culture like the language or history. They are making fun of "posers." Michigan State is used as a vehicle to state that you find most of these people in college. Is it laugh out loud funny? No. Is very slightly amusing if you have ever known one of these people? Yes, very slightly. Should they have made it a reoccurring sketch? No.

Michigan State has been mentioned numerous times on SNL over the past 10-15 years: Hannibal Lecture goes to college (Michigan State), Goth Talk co-host's brother went to Michigan State.

  • bump, a new SNL is on now and they're doing the MSU skit.

The skit was not funny because it's SNL. It hasn't been funny in years.

Even in it's heyday it wasn't that funny. The cast would literally have to walk off the stage so that the audience would know that the skit was over. The "best of SNL" would cut out the crap so the old days seemed funnier than they really were.
