Kill's decision to leave Gray at WR this year was pretty surprising to me. You can see what his O is doing down at Northern IL with a dual threat QB; pretty scary stuff, even at a MAC school.
Nelson has some pretty good potential, but as a true FR, he's had his ups and downs. Barker being out hurts them a lot; it's kind of the reverse of what happened when Burbridge came into the line-up for MSU. Now the #2 WR is being matched up with the #1 CB and the #3 option is hooked up with the #2 coverage guy, etc. Big reason they've been horrific on 3rd downs and haven't eclipsed 200 yards passing in the last 3 games (ever since Barker went down).
The moment is eternal

I thought in your report you were going to say he was still hurt. Glad he at WR but agree with you that it's surprising. He was the best offensive weapon they hade when he was at QB.
BTW, I'm now 100% convinced that in college you have to have a dual threat QB unless you can recruit NFL ready OL and almost NFL ready WRs and RBs ala Alabama. Only Iowa and MSU have pro styl QBs and both Offenses stink. A good dual threat QB can make up for a shitty OL with his legs and making something happen on broken plays. MSU broken plays are 10-15 yard sacks which will kill most series or drives.
Thoughts?
Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

Well, Wisconsin and PSU also have drop-back passers and UM is moving that way. That's 5/12 teams. Minnesota currently has more of a drop-back option.
I think just about any O under the sun works in CFB as long as you have the personnel to run it. It's kind of like the clamor for a 3-4 defense after the 2009 season; there's no magic scheme to make things better, just better execution.
And a dual threat can't totally make up for a bad OL. You're also putting much more of your O on the shoulders of one guy, so if he goes down, your offense stagnates quickly. Think Drew Stanton.

Agree about PSU as they have a potent O but always have a very good OL. Wiscy usually has a great OL but this year it's average and their O has suffered. As far as injuries to the dual threat guy you are just as screwed if the pro-style guy gets sacked and hurt. Injuries are just a wash and can kill any O.
Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

That's true. I just feel that with a dual threat, he's a chunk of your rushing yardage as well.
My preference is a Russell Wilson-type passer. A pass-first guy that can pull it down as the 4th option on a play. Those guys (Robert Griffin is in this category) are the most dangerous weapons in CFB and the true "dual threats".
Too many "Dual threats" are glorified RBs who can throw it o.k. (Denard, Martinez).
This Damion Terry kid MSU has coming in could be in that Russell Wilson mold. Very curious to see what he can do.
