March Madness On Demand no longer free. $3.99 for online

Why is it BS? Because they want to charge you for a service they provide?

Myself included, I kind of wish the reactions were more negative. If enough people were angry about this, they'd back off.

    Oh well, here's my $3.99, NCAA/Turner/CBS.

  • You only have to pay $4 if you don't already pay for cable. Otherwise its still free.

  • If they are going to charge they better have cleared up their connectivity issues. I'd gladly pay 10x that if it meant that the service would become reliable.

Whew, don't have to cough up 3.99, I only have to pay $140/mo to avoid it.confused

  • I'm sure I'll pay the $3.99 also.

Based on the reaction here, any guesses on what it'll be next year? $19.99? biggrin

(half-serious here: If 25% of the people who pay $3.99 would still pay if it were $20, wouldn't it make sense for them?)

Why is it BS? They are providing you access to a product (mind you that they had to shell out billions for the rights to) on an on demand basis. Shouldn't they be able to recoup something for the costs associated with bringing you this product?

They have advertising on there, you know. Don't make it sound like they've offered this as a charitable venture.

Having said that, if the $4 is for the entire tourney, that's no big deal. But it sounds like 95% of the country wouldn't have to anyway, if it's true that cable/satellite subscribers get it for free.

  • If you have one of the following providers, you can watch the games on the CBS, TNT, TBS and TruTV sites without paying for the March Madness On Demand package:

    AT&T Uverse
    Cox
    Optimum
    Comcast
    Charter
    Bend Broadband
    Dish Network
    Directv

Otherwise, you will be limited to whatever the CBS game is by streaming from cbssports.com, so feel free to stop freaking out if you have one of the providers listed above.

Edit: Also looks like Coke Zero is doing a promotion next week to give the MMOD access away free to a "limited number of fans" however many that ends up being.

You mean free online. I have fios and the Games better be on the channels I get every day of the year.

I'm fine with charging a fee IF the product is worth it. In the past, there were delays and broken feeds. the quality would vary during the game. None of that better happen when charging a fee #notholdingmybreath

This. 4 bucks would be money well spent if their servers don't crap out.

Yeah, I was going to say...I don't have one of those providers, but I have the channels, and they sure as hell better be playing the games.

That is an awesome deal for $4. I know it has been free in the past, but I would gladly pay it. If you bitch about $4, you should just buy one less pint of beer on Friday or Saturday night for f-sake. Or eat peanut butter & jelly instead of McDonald's for lunch for a day. Or forgo a toss with gHost's mom.

    Bingo. Well said.

Listening to Dan Patrick, he just said that it will now cost $3.99 this year. Anything official? If so, that blows dick.

excellent news!! hopefully, all bandwidth issues will be resolved. I'd rather pay for this service and expect satisfaction than get it for free and hope for satisfaction.

Oh noes the huge corporation shelled out billions of dollars!!! They must of went broke trying to provide little old me with a service and gained nothing in the process right. While I'm definitely going to pay for it, unless the quality improves, as someone else mentioned, then its a way for them make zilly more $$$$$$ while providing nothing more than they did last year. It also means it will probably be $6-8 next year.

You realize that the crappy image was a result of bandwidth issues, right? Charging will probably deter the cheapos from watching, so at the very least the bandwidth issues won't be as bad.

Sorry, thought that was implied because of the topic of the thread. Yes, this just refers to online access.
