Reason: there are too many guys to talk about. For real. They're all good.

Rush is very good. He'll get plenty of press once the season starts.

Honest answer: Our defense is too good.

Gholston gets alot of press, because he is the freakish athlete on the team. But guys like Rush, Norman, Bullough, Adams, Lewis are still very good, but will all be riding back seat (no pun intended) to Big Will

I agree. The guy was a first team Freshman All-American. How does he get overlooked?

Marcus Rush is getting no press because he plays on the same team as Will Gholston and Denicos Allen. He's still only the 3rd best pass rusher on the team. Other than that, he's a really talented football player, and he proved that because he kept a lot of guys with a lot of talent on the bench. If Rush wasn't the real deal, Calhoun, Heath, or Thomas would have played last year.

He probably doesn't mind living in these guys shadows, because you cannot block everyone.

Rush is probably drooling over the idea that offenses will have to double team everyone else allowing him to wreak havoc in the backfield. There are a lot of play makers on the D this year and it's gonna suck for other teams.

i agree, i think he will have a big year. Second team all conference. He plays smart football. Never out of position and makes plays. He will have a big year.

I'm wondering if Denard remembers him? Of course I think Rush's sack of Denard may have been the last and after that many don't they all look and feel the same?

Well lets see...

First and most obvious it to talk about Will Gholston.

Then next most obvious is to talk about Johnny 5.

Then probably Fundamentally Sound and Consistent Max Bullough.

Then probably He Who Shall Not be Named For Fear of Upsetting Him. (Hint: He flies)

Then its a toss up between Isaiah Lewis and Darquez Dennard.

Then maybe Senior Chris Norman... or maybe Marcus Rush.

Same thing happened last year. MD was talking up Marcus Rush, and everyone though he was black based on his first name.

But even after a fantastic freshman year - he doesn't get much press, flying under the radar.

If both Rush and Gholston improve, MSU will have the best DE combo in the country.

A good defense is a "Gestalt", meaning that the whole is more than the sum of its parts. When good players are placed in close proximity, they are now a group, a system. In 1965 and 1966, when MSU held multiple teams to negative rushing yardage, we had Bubba, but we also had Webster, Thornhill, Goovert, Lucas, Phillips and of couse "the animal" (a white dude) Bob Viney at the other end. While offenses had to game plan and often double team Bubba, they'd get destroyed by the tight-knit collection of talent directed by the legend, Hank Bullough.

This is why I'm so excited about the deep collection of talent that we have this year. Headlines are fleeting; performance is everything. I just appreciate the schemes and moving parts that Coach Narduzzi is working with, and look forward, with anticipation, to a great season.
