We tend to margarita's on the rocks vs frozen.

I hate the instant heartburn I get from sour mix so a good recipe for me is -

1 Can limeade
1 Can of Sprite or 7up
1 bottle of any mexican beer. I use Corona, Pacifico or Negro Modelo
1/2 fifth of good tequila

Mix it all up in a pitcher. Try it out.

Good recipe. I'm not a fan of sour mix either.

-equal measures of frozen limeade and lemonade
-ice, sufficient to make drink slushy in blender
-quantity of tequila to desired level of intoxication

I've also never thought much of any of the mixes, and the kids can also get virgin margaritas at the same time.

Good advice. Don't but anything too pricey - Patron, Cabo Wabo, etc. They are much better for simple 'on the rocks' drinks, or just sipping. Using them in a frozen margarita is a waste.

For those that want easy, On the Border used to make(likely still do) a do it yourself bucket. Just add tequila and freeze. Not bad at all.

Anthony’s Skinny Margarita:

Ingredients:

1 oz jalapeno tequila
½ oz pear nectar
Juice of 1 lime
Kick it up with orange zest, which replaces triple sec (a syrup used in drinks and contains tons of sugar) . This product is fresh and all natural.

Directions: Shake the ingredients together and then pour into a glass.

Skinny Margarita Calories: 90
Regular Margarita Calories: up to 300

Really, for margaritas, I have no problem using Cuervo gold. It gives you the tequila taste, which I think is key in a good margarita.

Step 1: Go to a Mexican restaurant
Step 2: Success!

2 oz Reposado or Anjeo Tequila, .75oz Cointreau, .5 lime juice, .5 lemon juice, .25 simple syrup. Shake, strain over 1 large ice cube.

Also have had a ton of success muddling a cucumber and SMALL piece of Jalapeno in the shaker. Adds some awesome flavors.

1 part triple sec
2 parts tequila
4 parts sweet and sour mix
a little fresh lime juice to cut the sweetness

Rub the rim of a glass with a fresh lime wedge (so the salt mix will stick), coat the rim with a course salt chili powder blend, and fill the glass with crushed ice. Pour margaritas over the ice and serve with a wedge of lime (usually the one used to coat the rim).

Reposado tequila just tastes so much better to me now that I prefer to use that in margaritas. But it is pricey. And I highly recommend Grand Marnier over triple sec or Cointreau.

Oh god, no salt for me. I just don't like what it adds to the drink.
