Mark Richt doesn't get fired, or Bob Petrino doesn't get hired?

  • Which of these situations is more likely to happen after the 2012-2013 season?

Quick back-story: My friend and I were talking about the Isiah Crowell suspension, and how we both believed UGA would cite it as one of many reasons for their decision to fire Coach Richt after the 2012-2013 season(If he makes it that long). The discussion then moved to Bobby Petrino, who I think will be hired before the 2013-2014 season. My friend thought I was nuts and said Mark Richt had a better chance of keeping his job than Bobby Petrino had of finding one.

So, what better way to settle this debate than by turning to tRCMB?

  • Georgia can win the SEC East, which means they can make it to the MNC game. He won't be fired until that chance is lost

  • Crazy to think a dude who in 11 years has 10 winning seasons, a 106-38 record, 9 top 25 finishes, 4 top 10 finishes, 7-4 bowl record including 3 BCS games, and 4 SEC title games (should have been 5) is on the hot seat.

If they win again this year, he won't be fired.

  • Mark Richt is not getting fired unless they lose to USC, Florida, and Tennessee. They'll lose to USC in Columbia, beat Tenn, Florida is a toss up because UGA always craps the bed in Jacksonville. They could also lose the second game of the year against Mizzu with most of their secondary suspended. All other games should be wins. USC has to play LSU and Arky so depending on JLS that could be two losses, on top of whatever else happens. In my opinion those are the only two teams that could win the east.

Petrino could be hired by Tennessee after Dooley has another losing season.

  • I get the feeling Richt is off the hot seat this year unless the off-field crap continues. While some can say the Dawgs have underperformed, they are often in or near the hunt and always reload.

I think Petrino will have to take two steps back in terms of programs willing to give him a chance. After his Falcon fiasco and then Arkansas I don't see him getting consideration from anything larger than a low level mid major. Talented coach who self imploded and can't be trusted.

    Richt stays
    Petrino stays unemployed

    This.

I think Petrino gets hired, but I don't know if it'll be at a BCS conf. school

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

  • Richt isn't going anywhere. A year removed from the SEC title game. Tennesse fired Fulmer and they haven't been right in ten years. They should learn from that.

I think 5 is way too lenient. When you look at UGA's schedule(No Bama, no LSU, no Arkansas) anything less than a spot in the SEC Title game is a major disappointment, and in my eyes, will lead to Richt's firing

  • Of course you have winning records when you beat bottom feeders like Vandy Kentucky and Ole Miss all the time. The man has not won a signature SEC game since 2007. Since his last BCS game and SEC Ship football in the SEC has changed and his worn out relaxed approach just isn't working anymore. He has not adapted and adjusted his old fashioned style, so guess what, we're stuck on the 2005 SEC and the 2008 Sugar Bowl.

  • TN did the right thing by firing Fulmer. They just hire all the wrong guys.

If you want to win in the SEC you are going to have to start over-signing and paying recruits.

  • What big-time program would touch Petrino at this point?

tRCMB - Visit at your own risk of being disgusted.

  • If you think Richt is on the hot seat, you're nuts, plain and simple.

Kentucky. Their football program isn't "big-time" but BMFP gives them a shot with a tricked up offense and able to recruit SEC.

Mark isn't going any where. Dooley isn't likely to get fired because the Vols are short on cash. If Petrino gets a job in major college fball, I would be surprised!

    Ron_in_ATL

  • Been a fan of MR for a long time imo it would take a meltdown for him to get fired. Skip Holtz at South Florida is on the hot seat. Probably the only thing keeping him is a 2 million buy out and USF is not a big money school. The talk here is, if they fire Skip who are they gonna hire. Answer, Pettrino?

That's the rumor getting the most play.

Maybe he could go back to Auburn. Auburn fans are getting restless.

After Auburn's offensive (in both ways) performance last Saturday, I could easily see Petrino coaching the Tigers next year. Sports radio hosts, down here in SEC country, have been talking about Petrino to Auburn all season.

If you don't think he'll have an SEC head coaching job next season, you don't understand SEC football and are a little naive. No fanbase down here will care about Petrino's past discretions. Hell, Arkansas might take him back.

I think Malzahn gets the Auburn job. He was the OC when they won the BCS and people there give him the credit for it.

Kentucky is perfect for Petrino - he won't be the biggest sleazebag on campus.

It might be a bidding war between Kentucky, Tennessee, and Auburn.
