Mark Titus is my favorite non-Spartan.

  • "and so MSU fans will make a show of worrying about their team headed into March Madness so that the rest of the country will underestimate the Spartans and count them out of the NCAA tournament, even though these same fans know that of the four MSU teams that have made the Final Four since 2000, only one made it to the Big Ten semifinals. I've fallen for this "pretend to be seriously upset with MSU even though we know that Izzo's strategy is to lose early in the Big Ten tournament so he can rest the players and make a Final Four run" ruse too many times before. So, Michigan State fans, please don't insult my intelligence by trying to pull it off again this year."

  • I know he's a former buckeye, but there's no way we're losing on Draymond's Senior Night. His rationale is "the Buckeyes need the win more". Ok pal, tell that to Izzo and Day Day.

  • Titus is reinforcing that MSU needs to bring back signs. It's lame that the Izzone can't have them anymore.

I'm pretty sure his actual rationale is "I really want OSU to win and I'll look like a douche if I don't pick my own school"

I'm standing up for Missouri here and calling out the endgame officiating mostly because Mizzou can't do it themselves without coming across as butthurt, and I know Kansas fans won't get mad about it since I've already established that they're the nicest fans in the country.

How many writers out there could get away with using the term "butthurt"? lol

We WANT to win more they NEED to win more.

They're playing to stay on the plus side in the 2/3 seed discussion and a piece of the B1G title and we're playing to stay on the plus side of the 1/2 seed discussion and for an outright title.

Plus the revenge factor is pretty real for this one. We F'd their season hard on 2/11, took away their winning streak and the driver's seat and pretty much haven't looked back, now we're within punching distance.

This game is going to be pure hell, I think you're whistling through the graveyard if you think otherwise. Not saying we're going to lose but there's going to be SECONDS, like 8 seconds left, before any floor kissing is going on. Then again I thought they were going to thump us the first time, so what the hell do I, or anybody really know?

  • We win on Sunday and also get revenge against NW or UI next Friday. Probs lose in the BTT Semis though.

Other than that, I agree with what he's saying. He's an extremely likeable writer and I'm very impressed that he's been able to maintain a writing gig past his playing/blogging days.

While you can always say games come down to officiating, it's especially true on Sunday. If the refs actually let MSU play defense on Sullinger like they did in Columbus, MSU will likely win again. But if it's a crew that calls every swipe or fight for position a foul (see: most tOSU games this year), then MSU is in trouble.

Wildly (to almost an absurd extent) agree.

Although I also think if we can just get a consistent whistle, however they want to call it, and Craft isn't given a 'white card' to foul as much as he wants just because he plays hard... we'll be OK too.

Really freaked out about Day Day using up his eligibility, he's on my 'infinite eligibility' wish list with Cleaves, Hutson, and Neitzel for sure.

  • Loved this part:

The Reminder That the NCAA Doesn't Care About Its Athletes of the Week

After the exciting news last week that Colorado's athletic department was paying for 50 students to go to the Pac-12 tournament, the NCAA wasted no time restoring order and making me again believe that the adults who are put in charge of running college sports are evil. That's because the NCAA won't let Delvon Roe, who played three years at Michigan State and was forced to retire before this season because of chronic knee pain, suit up one last time for senior night against Ohio State on Sunday. Keep in mind that Michigan State would gain zero competitive advantage by letting him wear a jersey and sit on the bench. Hell, even if they wanted to throw him in the game for a minute or two, the fact that his knees don't work and he hasn't played competitive basketball for months would actually be a huge disadvantage for the Spartans. But alas, the NCAA won't let reason get in the way of destroying what could've been a special night for an all-around great guy. I know I'm not the first to tell you this, NCAA, but this decision is bad and you should feel bad.

  • I honestly can't wait for his book to come out. I love his style of writing probably because I'm exactly in his audience's range of age, but at the same time even within all of his quick jokes there is alot of good analysis. Since I'm not going anywhere I will hopefully down his book over the break.

I think Titus is the heir to Simmons throne. (though I'm not sure Mark the Shark could have pulled of the 30 for 30s or Grantland like Simmons did.)

He had an exerpt from his book about the Final Four posted the other day. Pretty good stuff involving player pranks and Matta actually having a sense of humor.

I'm definitely going to read this book. After losing the NC game to Florida:

As I took one last look at the throngs of Gator fans cheering, I couldn't help but think that our season wasn't supposed to end this way. It felt like I was watching a terrible finish to an otherwise great sports movie. Like if Jimmy Chitwood airballed what would have been the game-winning shot, fell into a deep depression, and died a week later on his bedroom floor with an empty bottle of painkillers in one hand and a half-full bottle of Jack in the other. Or if the Giants were destroyed by the Cowboys in The Little Giants because Icebox realized she wasn't a lesbian and decided to stay on the cheerleading team. Or if Rudy didn't get to play in the last game because he was mouth-raped by the team captain in an act of hazing and decided to quit a month before.

Titus is almost 20 years younger than Simmons. I couldn't find his exact age, but Simmons is 42, and based on when he started college (06), Titus is probably around 24. When Simmons was Titus' age, Simmons wasn't even tending bar yet, let alone establishing a presence as a writer.

All I'm saying is that Titus has plenty of time to do great things in his career.

(I know there are some Simmons haters out there, but I enjoy him for what he is.)

  • The new book looks great.

From what others have said, sounds like it will make you love Matta, but also calls out some former OSU players for their idiocy.

Dude is really smart, not shocked at all he is having success as a writer. I thought i read somewhere that he was really close to playing at Harvard, and was recruited by quite a few Ivy League schools to play ball.

  • His book is excellent, but he wins the internet for the last line of today's article with 5 predictions for today's games:

TBS’s commentators won’t mention the fact that Rick Majerus kind of looks like St. Louis’ mascot
I guess Majerus doesn’t have a pointy head or enormous ears, so maybe it’s not the best comparison. But he’s got fat cheeks like the billiken and I can’t see St. Louis’s logo without thinking of him, which is good enough for me to put him in my top five players or coaches who resemble their team’s mascot. That list, by the way, looks like this:

Deniz Kilicli (plays for West Virginia) resembles a mountaineer
Mike Krzyzewski (coaches at Duke) resembles a blue devil
Bo Ryan (coaches Wisconsin) resembles a badger
Rick Majerus (coaches St. Louis) resembles a billiken
Rick Pitino (played at UMass) is a minute man
