Maryland to the B1G, press conference on BTN at 2:30pm

  • Assuming the expansion happens as rumored, it means we're going to have another schedule shake-up again for 2014. Here's the rub, though ... we're supposed to have an easier B1G schedule in 2013/2014 (no OSU or Wisky). When they do this schedule shakeup, you just know we're going to get shafted right away with a tough slate.

The same thing happened in basketball when Nebraska joined. We were scheduled for an easier B1G schedule and it was taken away.

14 teams sets up the 9 game schedule debate again.... 2 sets of 7.... play each in the division, plus one cross rival , then rotate any 2 from 6.... which means at most you wouldnt see a team for 3 seasons at most....

I wonder if they would then go 2 divisions for basketball as well.....which would in theory create a 20 game schedule... everyone in your division twice... cross rival twice... and everyone else once.....

They'd just make Rutgers-Maryland a guaranteed crossover and you'd play one less crossover game, but the idea of nine conference games could come up again.. I'd agree with you there. They're not going to re-draw the divisions.

Disagree. If this were to happen, I don't think there's any way PSU, MD, and Rutgers are not in the same division. MSU, UM, OSU could make up other four with either IU or PU. If PSU doesn't drop from the scandal, then division is stacked.

For the record, do not want this. I like being with UM in opposite from OSU.

Nail meet head. MSU just had a brutal 2-year schedule rivaled only by Nebraska.

I want to go east and play where the recruits are. We need to be in Ohio and Pennsylvania yearly.

    lol

You think they would vote for it if it didn't add money?

They must have some confirmation that it will be a net positive for all schools involved.

i'd like to see Michigan/OSU in the same division, with Michigan-MSU as our protected rivalry.

Damn, they were quick, tho. lol

Here's a couple problems with divisions in basketball.

    1) Winning i would mean what ? A higher seed at a neutral site post season tourney. In other words not much. There will never be a B1G championship basketball game outside the BTT.

    2) It would devalue the regular season Big Ten championship. How can you have a regular season champion without a title game between the division winners.

  • with maryland joining the B1G, maybe this makes it easier for another ACC school to join? Maybe Georgia Tech? They would be more attractive than Rutgers, right?

how binding is that exit fee? why can't schools just tell the conference to go fuck themselves?

That's why it won't happen. Look at the SEC. There is no regular season championship.

Of course, there's no regular season basketball champion in the ACC either - and they don't have divisions.

it would probably be easier for maryland to get out of exit fee that for example a georgia tech.... since GT voted in Favour of the buyout increase... and 3 schools (Maryland, Clemson and Florida State) voted against....
