I'd like to see a job listing for a meteorologist that concluded with "Tits or GTFO", instead of "EOE".

On a more serious note, local news ratings are driven primarily by the person who does the weather. It's the number one reason people watch the local news, and people will switch channels to find someone they like. All the doom and gloom, blood and guts is the same on all the channels. The weather forecast will also be the same, but people choose who they like, and watch that channel.

That's also the reason that weather coverage can take up as much as a third of each broadcast (when you add up weather teasers, actual weather forecasts, recaps of yesterday and today's weather, and then weather predictions, follwed by a summary as they sign off at the end).
