Michigan alums at MSU...please read.

  • So I'm in grad school and have a few issues with the Michigan grads around here...

It all started on the first day of orientation when we were doing activities to break the ice and get to know each other. We all sat in a huge circle and took turns standing in the middle doing whatever comical activity that we were asked to do by one of the professors. It was all fun until one dick was asked to sing a song and proceeded to belt out the UM fight song. I thought, okay, one asshole out of 200 isn't too bad...except half of our class joined him. I'm pretty laid back and it was the first day so I blew it off.

A few weeks later, I stopped by my class's tailgate party for the Michigan game and noticed half of my classmates were wearing maize and blue and telling everyone MSU was going to get their ass beat and blah, blah, blah. I ignored it for a while before eventually asking the obvious question on if they loved UM so much, why didn't they go there, which shut them up for a few minutes since we all knew the had been rejected. Looking back, it was probably a little harsh, but after today, I don't care. As the year went on, the bullshit continued, but I kept my mouth shut since I have to deal with these people everyday.

Shit finally hit the fan today. While explaining to a few people where IME was, one girl didn't understand where the stadium was located and went on to call our campus "a dump" and resented the fact she didn't get into "a real school" like UM. I told her I'd be more than happy to help pack her shit and drive her and her piss-poor attitude back in AA where it belonged, before another UM grad tried to clam me down by telling me she had her right to an opinion and that I wouldn't be here if I had been accepted to Michigan. I reminded them that I didn't even apply to Michigan because I had no interest in going there, not because I couldn't get in, but because I didn't want to deal with people like her all day. Unlike them, I tailored my application to MSU and couldn't be more proud to go here, so forgive me for being incredibly offended when she shit on my school. And for the record, most of the SCum have the same attitudes, so today wasn't anything new.

So here it goes...If you're that snub that you can't appreciate what MSU did for your career by accepting you, then seriously, get the fuck out. Go somewhere else. Your beloved alma mater didn't want you, but MSU did. For fucks sake, how stupid do you have to be to bash the name that's going to be printed on your diploma? There were thousands of people who applied to the program and only 200 were admitted, giving you zero reasons to be a whiny bitch and treat MSU like it's your second place trophy. You didn't choose MSU...MSU chose YOU.

In summary, if you came here and can't find it within you to show an ounce of pride or respect for your school, do everyone a favor and either shut up or leave. I don't care if you're a fan of another school, but don't shit on the one that did you a favor.

  • Newsflash: Probably 30-40% of MSU students are UofM fans(higher percentage in grad school). This isn't exactly a new phenomenon, and shouldn't surprise/bother you.

At my orientation, a few of these dooshes were there and saying I can't wait until I get my Um acceptance letter so I can ditch this dump. I played them for fools and asked them when did they apply, they said January /February. I then disclosed that I already got my acceptance letter to Michigan, and proceeded to go to State instead. Then I clued them in by saying If you haven't got an acceptance from them now, you won't get one for this upcoming semester, and since you consider MSU a dump, how about heading to Eastern or Wayne State to further your education. They came unglued after that.

Bottom line is that if you really bleed green, and come across douches like that, it isn't terribly hard to own them.... If you have to.

  • All of those words just to brag that you were one of 200 to be accepted into a program with thousands of applicants?

After that, you bid on the cost of the food for orientation and were closest without going over?

That's bogus. I met ONE student who was a UM fan during my 4 year career.

    Very funny....

Look son, I chose to go to State. State was not my fallback plan nor it was my worst case scenario school. With offers from Both Southern California and UCLA, and a full ride from Michigan on the table, many people considered me an idiot for choosing State. But, screw them. I bleed green.

  • You shouldn't be surprised at their negative SCum attitude toward MSU. I've lived fifteen miles from A2 all my life and have learned that kind of condescending crap is to be expected. If they want to start throwning shit first, I just throw it back in their face. They usually can't take it near as well as they dish it out. UM is not perfect.

Agreed. I have only met 2 in 5 years. One of them flunked out after their first semester freshman year.

  • I'd probably do the same thing for MSU if I had gone to U-M for grad school. Probably not as openly dick-ish, but I wouldn't be a U-M fan in any way.

That's what I did - although most of my fellow grad students didn't care but it did bother the four girls that went to undergrad at um.

That's just like your opinion man

That's a different scenario because their campus is actually a dump.
