There's an Isabella county?

The tribe members used to get like 50k a year from the casino. It was something like 120k for a family of four. I wonder if they're not counted in the statistics because it's a reservation. `

The Chippewa Tribe is rolling in money, due to the casino, but they giver very generously to area high schools, etc. New facilities, equipment, roads, supplies, etc.

I honestly would have thought that a U.P county would have a shot over Isabella, also would have thought the sheer amount of unemployed and homeless in Flint & Detroit would take the prize.

I wonder how Crawford lost its title. I think was the poorest county in MI for quite awhile.

I read the Morning Sun about a month or two ago when there was that uproar over the gay student at Sacred Heart that wasn't allowed to give a commencement speech. We rip on the LSJ but that is probably the worst news paper in America. The writing is a disgrace to AP style writing, there are typos every where, the web design looks like 1990's style web development and the people in the comment section seemed like a bunch god fearing religious nuts with low IQ's.

For some reason this report doesn't come as a surprise.

Something skews that number. They are either not counting the income the Tribe distributes or the CMU student population throws it out of whack.

Any eye ball test will show that Isabella isn't close to having the poverty of many other counties. Even the "poor" students reside in $1000+ per month apartments.

I would have guessed Lake County.

Less than a 5 minute drive outside of Mount Pleasant you find people who have above ground natural gas tanks for heating their home/water. 10 minutes out and you hit homes who aren't connected to city water. 15 minutes out and the houses might come equipped with an outhouse because all the water is drawn from a well.
