    You're missing a few years of Ted Brewster in there when he completely undid what Mason had done. Minnesota was a pile of shit when Kill took over.

    lol That's true, I did actually forget about Brewster. Man, that was an even bigger mistake than Kill.

    By "smoldering wreck" of a program, do you mean stable? Mason had been there for a decade, had a winning record, was sending players to the NFL, and had been to a bowl game the previous 5 years. Let's not pretend he was Crean taking over a devastated Indiana basketball program. This is a program with limited potential that Mason had turned into a consistent (albeit lackluster) football school. I would have liked to see what Mason could have done with the improved resources that Kill now has.

    Mason's last year was 2006. Brewster was 15-30 before Kill.

  • After sleeping on it, i have a couple of things that don't sit well with me:

    1. The staff should have ordered an MRI right away, even though they thought they knew what the injury was.
    2. If the trainer tells you to ice an injury, ice the injury. Feel free to get acupuncture on your own time, but don't subsitute their expertise with your own preference

    Oh, and a pro tip, offered up free of charge by Rodeo Burger:

    Never, ever use your mom's friends opinion in helping to frame your side of a dispute in a football related manner. I don't care if she was married to George Halas or Vince Lombardi, just keep that tidbit to yourself.

    He's entitled to share his thoughts with the coach in private or in writing but not to publicly post something like this. I wouldn't hire this guy or want him anywhere near my organization.

    His parents should tell him he's a grown man and it's time work it out or figure out a way to pay for college.

    His parents are too busy telling him that he's the best player on the team (or at least a close friend is).

    That tells you just about all you need to know about this kid. Coddled baby.

    It's still up to the player whether he wants an MRI though. You don't have to submit to treatment if you don't want. According to his letter, kid didn't want an MRI.

    I always thought so. I can't remember a specific incident, but I do know that we've heard coaches say, "We're doing an MRI just to be sure, but we're optimistic that it isn't as bad as we thought...".

    That is one area where I think the Minny staff looks bad. Get the MRI right away, it's hard to defend NOT doing it.

    From his letter:

    "There was no MRI following the injury because we (the trainers and myself) didn’t think it was necessary. My personal reasoning for not getting an MRI was because I didn’t want to entertain the possibility of my injury being severe, and I’d rather push as hard as I can to rehab it believing it was a minor issue. I figured if it was something severe, my rehab would be greatly affected and time would tell me that something more serious has happened."

    He didn't want the MRI because he was afraid of bad news. Whether or not he shared the fear of it possibly being severe is another story. Likely didn't. The trainers probably were like "that's fine, probably just a high ankle sprain anyway." He claims he wasn't told a diagnosis until later. He also insinuated that the trainers were defensive when he wanted to get an MRI done later. They were likely just concerned about him because if a player is asking for an MRI, it's probably because he thinks something is serious. In this case, it wasn't serious before, but now it is according to him. He's sending mixed messages to the training staff and likely not communicating with them. As for not knowing the diagnosis, who knows if that's true or not. Again, likely a communication issue. I'm sure if he would have asked about what they thought, they would have told him. Either way, the no MRI here is not a big issue.

    Even if you feel you are correct and mishandled, who the hell needs to write a 1500 letter essay to the public to whine about the way they feel? Good luck in life kid, your going to need it.

    I lived down in Southern Illinois when Kill was the coach at SIU, and heard nothing but rave reviews from his players and co-workers. Wonder what this kid would do under the pressure of a Saban, Kelly, or Bellichik. cry

    i'm not going to read the entire thing, but it looks like he got injured, used his own personal opinion on how to recover (acupuncture) instead of using the methods recommended by his training staff, and didn't recover as quickly as he could have.

    Ex-Minnesota junior WR A.J. Barker will play at Houston next season.
    Barker made a notable exit from Minnesota, citing major disagreements with head coach Jerry Kill. Houston head coach Tony Levine was a former Minnesota walk-on himself, so the two have something in common.

    Being called a sunshine blower is not insulting to me and I'm proud to be one.
