Montee Ball was out cold after the hit in the second quarter

  • and came back.... How dangerous is it to let a kid with a head injury go back into the game?

  • If you lose consciousness and have a single concussive sign or moment of amnesia, that is a stage II concussion at least, and warrants transport to a medical facility....

  • There is no way Ball should have played the rest of the game given what is known about concussions.

If I had my way a player who is knocked unconscious in any B1G athletic event would not be eligible to return to that game and be required to pass a concussion test before returning to future games that season.

I don't even know if the B1G mandates pre-season testing for concussions so every player has a baseline. I know the NFL does and I know several MI HS do including several in West MI.

I'd love to see Bielema get in trouble.

When he first went to get up, you could tell the guy's bell was wrung. Just goes to show Bielema as being the d-bag he is, putting that kid back in.

  • Im surprised that this hasnt been discussed more. I was pissed at BB for putting him in the game, because I knew he would go at full speed, and I was seriously concerned (still am) that he hadnt fully recovered. It would be a shame that down the road Ball cant finish the season because of these questionable calls to keep him playing. Dude is a sweet back.

  • To be fair, not every time someone gets their bell rung or knocked unconscious is it a concussion.

  • He looked to go limp when he was hit, then tried to stand up and quickly fell back down.

Both are visual signs of head trauma to a casual viewer. I was shocked they let him play again. Adults without the emotional interest in the game need to take decisions like this out of the hands of those emotionally invested (players and coaches.) The doctors should have never let him come back if he was concussed.

    ArtieLuvPancake

  • Google Chronic traumatic encephalopathy or CTE if you really want to see how stupid/dangerous/irresponsible it was to put that kid back in the game. The B1G needs to investigate Beilema for putting winning above his players safety and health. And this isn't coming from green tinted glasses as I would feel the same way if it was Baker, Cousins or Worthy. The overall CTE issue will define football the next decade.

I was sure he was knocked out in the live feed. Im going thru the replay on espn 3 at this moment for screen caps and timing to back it up.

live play around 1:11:00 7:36 on the game clock.

    slow mo replay 1:11:34

It goes: the hit, Robinson's hand on the helmet holding up Ball's head. The body looks limp, and when the hand comes off Ball's helmet his head drops like a sack of potatoes.

Another great decision by a weenie of a head coach.

  • Wisconsin fans are now bitching about the "blatant helmet to helmet" looked like an accidental helmet to helmet if at all. Kid just took a hard shot and got his cage rattled.

The first time MSU basketball aired in France the French surrendered to Tom Izzo just to be safe.

Beliema should be suspended for 3 games. This should evoke outrage across the country.

  • Ball was clearly KO'ed.

Shouldn't have come back, but I'm glad he did otherwise we would've heard "the only reason the Spartans won was because Ball didn't come back into the game."

Although this probably wasn't the biggest play of the game, it was huge because it changed the complexion of the game.

Not sure, but I think Lewis made the hit.

Don't like to see anyone get seriously injured, but after Douche-burger and Herb were gurgling the collective balls of the Badgers and then gleefully mocked Lewis for his comments and early "stinger" I'm glad Lewis came back into the game and made some monster hits to shut them the hell up.

  • Let the opposing team decide on what's right for their team's players. If it was our guy I doubt Coach D puts him back in. Just saying this is their business and I trust if it was wrong Badger coaches will catch hell - Wisconsin has excellent medical resources available to it and doctors are watching.
