    i don't get it, aren't they still on probation?

    Yes. Double secret probation.

    You have an unnatural obsession with people on the internet. I didn't even realize you were one of the people in that other thread. You know why? Because you are completely irrelevant to anything in my life.

    and guess what, there won't be any punishment (which was my point the whole time, not about should there be). Yet feel free to keep whining like a little girl on the internet about NCAA football and then obsessing over what people say.

    I took 5 seconds to search for the other thread and find who the OSU apologist was. Don't flatter yourself.

  • Now Smith is saying the additional violations were all minor. I'm guessing he fielded some angry phone calls this morning, some suggesting they'd be better off with a new AD.

    o$u should put up a flip-sign outside Smith's office, " _____ Days Since an NCAA Violation!" They'd only need the numbers 1-5.

    Seriously, even if ALL these violations are minor, (which I don't believe for a second), FIFTY-EIGHT?! At what point does it become obvious that they don't give a shit about following the rules?

    Ohio State AD says 12 additional violations all minor - NCAA Football - SI.com

    COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith says his department is looking into 12 additional secondary or minor NCAA violations.

  • In any other job if you get caught breaking even minor rules 40 time, let alone in a single year, your ass is fired. This is a effing joke.

    You forgot about while being on probation/under investigation for major infractions...

    It's like those people you always see on the news who consistently get pulled over and concicted time and time again for drunk driving while on probation, but nothing is done untill they injur or kill someone because there's no room in the jails or prisons...they just keep hedging their bets and driving drunk because they know they'll never get any serious punishment.

    It must suck to lose to irrelevant teams.

  • I know we like piling on them a lot, and I certainly wish the sanctions had been more severe after they cheated us out of a Rose Bowl, but this is essentially a non-story. O$U reports a shit-ton of incredibly minor violations every year; their strategy seems to be, "If we keep confessing to our parents every time we sneak an extra cookie or forget to take out the trash, maybe they won't notice that we crashed the car last week." I'm not at all suggesting that their program is clean, just that these violations won't make the NCAA so much as blink.

    You seem to still be bruised from one of the all-time physical beatings we put on you in the horseshoe this past season. I hope this doesn't mean you won't be rooting for us from home this year when we're bowling while you're couch surfing.

    Some of these 12 new violations are potentially major primary violations.

    I tried to explain that before, but people in this thread (and others) would rather cry bloody murder without realizing this is essentially a non story. Ohio State has reported this number each year for over the past decade. As you stated (and I have tried before), it actually is buying good will from the NCAA. The NCAA has actually come out in the past and lauded Ohio State for their continued reporting of violations.

    This does not mean Ohio State is clean. It just means all these stories about Ohio State's secondary violations are a non story.

    No they are not. Smith clarified what he meant was they are either secondary or nothing, not that they are secondary or major. Smith clarified that today. He once again proved he is an idiot because he doesn't know how to watch his words, but again this is much ado about nothing.

    BTW, here are the violations. Please pick out the major ones you are talking about.

    • Football: The compliance office approved the use of mini basketballs during a football winter conditioning workout;

    A former assistant football coach had an inadvertent contact or "bump" with a prospective student-athlete;

    The program understood the aunt of a prospective student-athlete was his legal guardian and provided food and lodging expenses to her for the official visit;

    An assistant coach inadvertently posted on the Facebook wall of a 2013 prospective student-athlete, believing at the time he was using the email inbox function of Facebook.

    • Institutional: Two baseball prospective student-athletes arrived on campus for official visits before being placed on the request list;

    Athletics financial aid agreements were issued to three prospective student-athletes without being signed by the financial aid director.

    • Baseball: A prospective student-athlete in grade 12 registered and showed up for an Ohio State camp for participants in grades 9-11 even though he was told he was not eligible to compete at the camp. A T-shirt was given to the individual to defuse the situation when he got upset that he couldn't compete;

    A prospective student-athlete received a complimentary admission to a home baseball game during a dead period.

    • Men's gymnastics: The practice activities of a gymnastics alum were publicized.

    • Field hockey: A former assistant coach sent an email to a prospective student-athlete believing that she was a 2013 high school graduate.

    • Men's tennis: A high school football coach and friend of the tennis program's head coach stopped by the tennis training facility unannounced with an assistant coach and four prospective student-athletes during a dead period.

    • Women's hockey: A former assistant coach inadvertently sent an email to a 2014 prospective student-athlete when the prospect was mistakenly entered into the recruiting database by the previous coaching staff as a 2013 graduate.

    Don't forget that MSU has less than a stellar violation history and as Paul Newman said in the Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean, "There's nothing worse than a harlot turned respectable".

    WTF are you talking about? Who has a "stellar" reputation?

    Frequency doesn't mean it's ok.... getting caught drunk driving isn't ok just because you've been caught once every year for the last ten years.

    When you've been busted for a major scandal and you're currently on probation (while showing no effort to right your wrongdoings, apparently, by having several dozen violations continuing to occur), it doesn't look good. There is no way around that just own up to it.

    The fact that Smith had to discuss it, then come back and REdiscuss it to clarify what he meant the first time around, means something is going on. Even if MSU and other schools are self-reporting secondary violations on an annual basis I don't see Mark Hollis coming out to talk about them multiple times.

    Actually, which looks worse? Continuing to report the same amount you normally report or suddenly having little to none?

  • This is my personal favorite: On Aug. 20, assistant coach Dick Tressel responded to a text message from the parents of recruit Warren Ball asking which gate to use to enter Ohio Stadium for a scrimmage. Texting the parents of a recruit was a violation.

    Stuff like this happens at every school. It's an honest mistake, and if they're reporting them, they shouldn't be penalized in anyway.

    I get it. You are jealous that we can win without paying players. Now go play in traffic. There are enough mentally challenged people in the world. We certainly don't need you breeding with your sister-mother.

    The RCMB...is one of the most awful, alarming, inappropriate, disgusting, and offensive msg boards in the history of the internet.

    Well if you're suddenly put on probation you'd want that number to be down.. High numbers are always going to look worse.
