My Wife's friend from HS is trying to hit her/us up for money

  • Quite comical.

So, my wife open's her work e-mail yesterday, and one of her friends send her an urgent e-mail asking her for $8K, $3K to pay her taxes and $5K to live on. She even sent her bank account and routing number so the money could be deposited quickly.

My Wife tells her no way.

She replies, $4K to live on would be OK. My Wife replies, not a chance.

The Wife goes into work today, and there is an e-mail from her saying $2K to live on would be OK.

My Wife replies, you aren't getting any money from me.

This woman has to be on drugs. I bet she is.

  • Don't be so quick to dismiss this. How hot is the friend? Perhaps an arrangement could be negotiated

She sounds pretty desperate. Ask her if she'd settle for $8K from Fletch to give him his first bjer

Sounds like a Coke or Crack habit. From my experiences, hearing from people in programs that is how they would react. They will start high and keep going until they get something. They will sell shit, steal shit etc.. Make up stories about why they need money. It is bad. She can get a job and live life, even if it is minimum wage. Yeah it might be in a one bedroom shit hole apartment in Pontiac, and eating food from Aldi. but they can manage. Plus the Government programs. It will go to drugs. Although it could be gambling.

And if she owes 3K in taxes she has to have some sort of income or a house. In which case she can just stop paying the mortgage and give the house back and use the money from not paying for the house. And there are programs out there like Hardest Hit that will help with the Mortgage.

If you wife actually cares about this person, make them give you a "budget" income in and then expenses. If they get offended then oh well. If it is legit then the person can find out what cuts they need to make in their budget. But that all depends if your wife actually cares or not. Nothing against your wife if she doesn't because the last thing the person needs if they are on drugs is someone providing them money to buy drugs. I have heard some crazy stories from people wanting money to buy drugs. And they were people I thought were "friends". Hell I heard a guy tell me one time he fell of the wagon and went through 20K in 2 weeks on a Coke and alcohol binge. Imagine sobering up to that.

  • Not quite the same, but there was a friend of mine from years ago (mid 1990s) who "borrowed" my then quite expensive mountain bike, which subsequently got stolen. Dude never replaced it despite numerous requests. "Awww, man, I'm sorry dude, I'm low on cash..." Last year the guy friended me on FB and I sent him a PM jokingly asking him whether he planned on replacing my mountain bike. Crickets. Never heard back from him. Looking at his photos on FB, dude has a fucking Hummer (not the H2, the army version), and a summer home up in the Catskill Mountains near Hunter Mountain NY. Obviously money isn't an issue for him. Of course I don't expect him to pay me back but an acknowledgement would be nice. Fuck people.

Why do I visualize you as 'Maurie' from Goodfellas when it comes to money? "Jimmy, do you have my money?" "Jimmy, can I talk to you?" "Jimmy, jimmy.............cry

It's the poor people grocery store? If you go there and try to pay with anything but a WIC or bridge card, they look at you funny.

Well, someone is going to need to at least give her a quarter to use as a deposit on the shopping cart.
