My buddy claims push button car ignition is an important feature

  • lol dude just bought a new Acura and we were talking about his car and he condescendingly said "Yeah, the A4 just wasn't in my league in the same way the Acura was, which is why I pulled the trigger on the Acura instead..." I responded: "What do you mean by that?" and he went on, comparing the A4 to the Acura, and I said "dude why are you going on about the A4?" and he said "well, I was just trying to show you that I gave a honest look at the A4."

I explained that I didn't care whether he looked at the A4 or not - I have no allegiance to Audi. But he indirectly suggested I did because my wife has an A4. Then, later in the conversation, he said "I LOVE the push button ignition" and I ='ed blank. I've heard other people say this too - what's the big deal about a push button ignition? Ok, so you don't need a key, per se, to start the car - or at least you don't need to insert the key into an ignition spot (in some cars) but overall, unless you have Michael Myers chasing you and need to get away in a hurry, does it really matter if you have to insert a key somewhere? Why is the button perceived to be such an important feature? no

  • We have had the push button ignition in our Explorer for a little over a year. We also have several vehicles with actual keys. I see no advantage either way except its harder to lock your keys in the car (and get back in with the keypad on the door) because when the fob is in the car, the doors will open when you pull the handle. So overall, I like a key ignition a little better

I'm sure I've had worse but I think it's an interesting question.

  • In addition to the push button start, having that feature usually allows you to get in and out of the car without digging for keys. All you have to do is put your hand on the door handle and the car automatically unlocks if the keys are in your pocket or a purse.

It would not be a total deal breaker, but that feature is great to have.

  • I considered the a-7. My buddy has one. beautiful car. In the end I went with a car I was familiar with. I'll probably go with an Audie next time. Comparing an ugly Acura with An Audie a-4 is just stupid. The styling and handling blow away that jap car.

  • Honestly, I do appreciate my push button ignition, but mostly because it also allows me to open car doors without having to dig my keys out of my pocket and either push a button or actually use a key. That being said, it would probably be the last thing I'd use to compare two cars. It's just a nice bonus if the car comes with it.

    I love my push-button start, but yeah--this.

  • I don't even use the keyless. Hell I took it off my key ring years ago.

Haha could be. I can picture the two of them having this horrible conversation and how painful it must have been. I dont know why he would want to come to a message board and relive this extremely boring 5 minutes of his life. Its like someone making the mistake of watching one of Adam Sandler's new movies, and then watching it again. Just stupid.
