Did you curb stomp your neighbor's mutt?

This. I hope he has an "accident". If that crap happened to one of my dogs I would lose it.

If they'll attack another dog, they could easily attack a child.

We have a Beagle too and she's kind of submissive. If another dog attacked her, I'd have to ensure her safety one way or the other. If the neighbors won't do anything, I'd get the authorities involved. I wouldn't hesitate a bit. If the authorities wouldn't do anything, I'd be seriously thinking of buying a poison steak to toss over the fence line.

    This.

    Its five o'clock somewhere.

  • Do the whole neighborhood a favor and disappear the neighbor's dog tonight. First it attacks another dog, then a child.

  • A dog that would attack and cause serious injury to another dog could do the same to a child. Talk to the police, there is probably a charge that can be signed for keeping a dangerous dog, which in some States is defined as a dog which has shown a propensity to attack people and other animals. Have other neighbors had problems w/ the dog attacking them or their dogs/cats? I would at least take criminal or civil action to recover the Vet's bill.

If nothing else going after the neighbor for the vet bill if the dog was loose (not inside a fence/on a leash) sends them a message.

MI small claims court is up to $3000.

This is an emotional and uninformed statement.

Dogs get in fights...it's unfortunate, but it happens. Even the nicest dogs in the same families can get in fights. Don't assign human intentions to the dogs. This dog didn't break and enter with the intent of beating up another dog.

The prudent and rational thing to do is to use the legal system to exact justice against the owners...there are some great ideas posted about filing civil suits or using the small claims courts. Also, a sit down with the owners of the other dog(s) is also something that needs to be done. All of this could be resolved by a simple conversation.

    We're all pulling for Dogtonio!

Indeed. If you don't report this the authorities will never know if there have been multiple incidents. Only then can they prevent a two year old getting its face ripped off. The "prudent and rational" thing is not to just address this through the minor claims courts (Vargman is an idiot, as always) but to do everything you can to make sure this doesn't happen again. Millions of people are bitten by dogs each year, and hundreds of thousands of those people end up in the emergency room. Of course, in many of those incidents there were previously very clear signs that there was a problem, such as the one the OP has just seen.

  • Update: We called the Vet yesterday afternoon because Dogtonio went 24+ hrs with going # 1 or #2. He also would not eat anything but treats. The Vet said to keep an eye on him and if he looks like he is trying to go to the bathroom and straining, or has not gone by this afternoon (4-4-12) then we need to bring him in. Also when they have dogs that went under anesthesia and won't eat they go get a McDonalds' grilled chicken sandwich, so last night Dogtonio got a nice chicken sandwich last night. Then this morning, at 3am he finally went to the bathroom, in his cage. I wasn't mad at all, but it was the worst smelling urine EVER! He is doing much better this morning and getting stronger. He is able to hold his head up for a sustained period now. Unfortunately, when we take him out back in our yard, his tail is tucked, head down and he won't move. I think he is terrified to be in the back yard, because if we take him in the front yard he will walk around a bit. Thank you guys so much for all the prayers, it means a lot to me, my wife, and our family. We are not out of the woods yet, but he is doing better!!!

We did report this to animal control. We asked them at this time, to not come pick up the dog. But the more we think about it the more we feel like we will have to. My wife was outside yesterday and heard the 2 dogs barking, and she said it didn't sound like a playful bark, but rather a threatening bark. Right now the neighbors have agreed to pay the first vet bill and hinted they would pay any others. I don't want to ruffle feathers until we get our $$$$$ for the vet bills.

should they not pay, simply post their address to tRCMB and it will be dealt with. via upperdeckers and random anal.

I suspct they know they have a "problem" pet on their hands but its their dog and they are attached to it just like you are attached to yours.

So they are offering right now. If they don't know you called animal control to report their dog they will be civil. Don't be shocked if they withdraw their offer once authorities get involved.

Glad your pooch looks to be turning the corner.

    ps
Make sure your dog has tags. A buddy's dog chased a deer going through his invisible fence and jumping over a fence the deer partially knocked down. Animal control truck sees the dog and muttly walks right up to the truck. Buddy is out looking and gets his dog out of the truck. Along with a $70 citation for not having current tags plus the $20 for new tags.

  • Fuck the neighbors and their "feelings" about their dog. How hard would it be to leash the dogs? Simply put, if those dogs are let free to roam the yard sans leashes, then it is the owner's own fault that Animal Control will take the dog away.

How do you know what the dogs intended? - the way I read it they broke through the fence with the specific intent to eat Dogtonio. They have also done it before.

Anybody who keeps dogs that they cannot control does not seem to me people whose issues are solved with "simple conversations".

  • Prayers for the dog.
I remember a dog that I once had that was attacked by an unleashed dog (big poodle known as Zeus). Didnt harm my dog since it was a bigger dog, but nevertheless we did not like it one bit. I completely understand where you are coming from on this.
