My own two cents of what happened....

Tired of hearing this talk throwing Appling under the bus. We won 29 games with him at the point this year, with no one at the 2 who drew much attention or could consistently create their own shot. Appling will be the starting pg next year and with Harris next to him it is going to be a different story - Harris will draw a lot of attention and be able to create. IMO they are going to make a dynamic combination. Appling will also get significant minutes at the 2, because as a freshman I don't see Harris playing a ton of minutes. Trice will see similar minutes as this year at the point with Appling at the 2. Mix in Valentine at the point or the 2 (or 3) and MSU is going to have a heck of a back court. Add to that a slasher in Dawson at the 3, Nix/Payne in the 5 and Costello/Guana at the 4 and and this team is going to create matchup nightmares for most teams.

Im not saying anyone is throwing him off the bus as they're just stating their opinions, but, most of their opinions are wrong. IMO Haha!

I agree with just about everything said above. Appling had a rough year from 3, but he also just played PG for his first time ever and lead a team to 29 wins and the sweet 16. Pretty damn good for your first year...

Everyone clamoring for Trice to be PG needs to calm down as well. Trice had a decent freshman season but if he we're that much better of a PG he would have assumed the role of starting PG. I know its not an exact science, but even if you double his stats for the season (17mpg, 4.5ppg, 1.8rpg, 1.8apg, and 1.2t/o) they still aren't as good as Appling. And Trice is not nearly the defender. Not hating on him, but I think for playing PG your whole life you'd look noticeably better than a guy just figuring it out. Yes I know he's a freshman, but...

If he's a freshman so its not a fair comparison, how can everyone believe DV is just gonna come in day one and start running shit. Again, I like this kid a lot too, but how many freshman have we had come in and adjust instantly? I don't know how he is defensively but I'd assume he wouldnt be able to check the opposing PG so we'll need Appling or Trice out there anyway. Not saying he wont see time at PG at State, just that I don't think he's gonna jump right in and adjust to the college game. Plus if we're gonna be running more, he's not gonna be as quick as Appling.

There will be times when Appling is at the 2, just like we already do this year when Trice and Appling were in at the same time. My honest opinion is that Keith is gonna work hard this summer on both his shot and his PG skills.

He had a bad game last night, but so did everyone else, including Day Day. Day Day missed 11 shots, wood missed 7, Payne and Thornton each made 1 fg.. Keith had 4 assists on the team's 14 fg. It was a complete team loss last night. Its hard to look good at PG when only one other player on your team can score. Next year we'll get some more shooters: Trice, Harris, Byrd, Kaminski, etc. So it will be a lot easier for him to "distribute".

From his Freshman season to this season, while switching to a new position, he doubled his scoring average, tripled his assist average while not even doubling his turnover rate, and got better on D, yet he's gonna get beat out for PG. You know his shot is going to get better next year (can't get worse). Who was the PG that played PF in high school (Bell or Smith)? That one worked out pretty good.

I guess im just surprised, as I think Keith is gonna take over next year. Maybe I drink the Koolaid I guess, but come on... even if he only improves half as much as he did between years 1 and 2 as he does from 2 to 3, that's a damn good player. More shooters on the team, improved posts down low, and a summer to work on his shot and watch film? I don't see how he becomes anything short of pretty-damn-good next year.
