NBC plans to cancel 30 Rock, Community and Parks and Rec...

  • I really liked 30 Rock. Alec Baldwin is so good in that show.

    "Clear Liquor..." actually.

Great line...Offerman delivered a bunch last night.

  • This is disappointing. I am running out of TV to DVR.

These 3... House... I don't think there are any network shows I give a rip about anymore.

I really hope it is some kind of show with D-rated celebrities that nobody cares about. I've lost all hope with the people of the US. People love shows like American Idol, Dancing with the Stars, etc, those shows make me want to puke. They also usually take up several prime-time slots during the week because they milk the shit out of those shows.

Good comedy shows are hard to come by. Good thing Modern Family, Always Sunny in Philly, and some other select few are still around.

    No it isn't.

"Instead of canceling the shows outright, the Peacock network will reportedly announce shortened final seasons for each at next week’s annual “upfront” presentation in New York City."

I meant the headline. From what I read it's not certain that Community or Parks and Rec will be cancelled.

The article is slightly misleading as they have been picked up for half seasons. I think 30 Rock is the only definite cancel at this point.

I love Community, but I can see why it wouldn't appeal to a broad audience. It's very smart but niche.

A half season is a network executive saying, "We won't pull the plug yet. Eventually, but not yet."

NBC has shit the bed in the last 10 years. A network that once had Seinfeld and Cheers (back to back!) has gone straight to hell. And to answer the OP's question: There will never be another Seinfeld or Cheers or Arrested Development. Those shows were very unique in their own ways, nothing can ever match them in characters and writing. Once Friends went off the air, NBC execs probably had guns to their heads. The "Must-See-TV" era ended a long time ago for them.

What is that, a Titleist? A hole in one...

You can't say Arrested Development is anywhere near Cheers or Seinfeld.

I love AD but no one watched it when it was on...just like Community.

My favorite show is obvious, and I do agree. AD is very, very funny, but not as iconic. I don't think that can be spun any other way.

  • Couldn't they cancel The Office? I don't want to have to watch it anymore. I have tried to stop but I can't...for completeness sake.

    Formerly Blade Runner.

    tManWithNoName

  • The funniest part of all of this is that the NBC Executives are canceling some shows with some of their best characters, one of them being a terrible NBC (Kabletown) Executive, and they STILL don't get how much they suck at their jobs. I mean how are you supposed to understand comedy when you don't get satire or irony?

  • NBC put the show in a place to fail this year on Thursdays

    Fox - American Idol
CBS - Big Bang Theory/Rules of Engagement- Person of Interest - The Mentalist
    ABC - Missing - Gray's Anatomy

Plus both shows had high payrolls for 30 minute shows. Cheaper to put on Watch this Yahoo Dance crap

I quit DVRing two years ago and don't regret it.

  • 30 Rock wasn't going to last after next season regardless, it was getting long in the tooth and Tina Fey is getting bored with it... plus Alec Baldwin and Tracy Morgan are getting too expensive for the show.

Community has been riding right on the edge of renewal for the past two seasons, it has a cult following that has absolutely no chance of growing. Parks and Rec has the same issue, however, they've got a bigger audience. Both shows were kind of dicked around by irregular appearances in the Thursday night line-up and they wouldn't work on any other day of the week. Up All Night, Chelsea, Whitney, and whatever craptastic shit fest they threw up there this season weren't any better...

I'm sad to see Community go, but its obvious that the pressures of renewal were changing the writing this year to hit broader audiences to me the show has lost a bit from where it was at in its second season and honestly, a show should be at its best in its third season.

Parks and Rec got boring after they went away from the absurdity of local government and more into a full on campaign, because local government stuff was absolutely realistic... the campaign stuff was not. It would be kinda intriguing as a show that was built as a parody of a city council as somebody else suggested but, how many more jokes can they make?

Ron Swanson will be missed dearly. RIP sweet prince.

If they could keep Nick Offerman and spin off Ron Swanson it would be great. A hunting/fishing show parody or a parody of a DSC/HGTV show freaturig Nick Offermam in a Ron Swanson type character could work.

Like I said a parody of West Wing with that cast could also work...however that cast will be getting really hard to keep together.

Aziz Ansari, Chris Pratt and even Aubrey Plaza are and have been destined for bigger things. They won't be able to afford them as secondary characters.

    I should pitch a show
"Ron Swanson's Living the Simple Life" a
Parody of either an outdoor adventure show it a home/design improvement show...

  • Those are the 3 best shows on NBC. Community, Parks and Rec, 30 Rock in that order

    Oranje15

  • This is absolutely dumb if true. I watch all of them most Thursdays and if I miss them I watch on Hulu. I agree with most that The Office & 30 Rock have run their course but Parks and Rec and Community I feel can last another couple of seasons.
